Thanks for the suggestion, but with Efficiency V on my pickaxes, I can mine EVERYTHING at run speed. Thats fast enough for me.
Why Is it so critical to update?
And advice? ---> "If you fail to plan, you plan to fail"
It's critical to update so I can see what direction I should be going in. I have got the epic farming mod that you have (great mod btw) and I made the farm. I also started clearing the area of the place using for my project (Arundel Castle). I have also started planning my project in paint.
I do have one question though: What if there are limited photo's of your project, and you are trying to figure out how to put it in paint? What should you do then? I've been trying to find tons of photo's but most are just blurry and unhelpful.
Any advice would be great!
Thanks
P.S I'm in High school ( One of the best in the country) so I get tons of homework. I won't be able to check much or play much till next weekend, but I expect an update by then =P
Edit: Also, will you be planning on updating to 1.3? Most mods are out now.
I cant explain it, but I wanted to build a few 'fantasy' structures in this project. Probably because... I never have before. So-far, in my MC career, I've only built historic structures, but no longer!!This is the first of three planned Towers. Black, White & Red. For now the Black tower will hold my Enchanting table and library, which will be moved to the White Tower once its built. At that time, a Nether-portal will take its place in the Black Tower. The Red Tower will hold a Distilling Stand, potion stand... whatever that thing is. Just so you know, I have never built any of the three before, and so far I LOVE the enchanting table. I hope the nether is as cool and that potions are as useful.
Mods in use here:
Pam's EarthCraft → allows the creation of many different color stone bricks by dying them with standard dyes. In this case... Black of course.... but her Earthcraft blocks do not craft into sloped blocks. Only Mojang blocks can be made into sloped blocks, and I'm ADDICTED to them now that I know how to use them. So, enter the phase of my learning curve that demanded becoming an elite level Obsidian miner
Stats:
Obsidian: Approx 1600 (yeah, really)
Black Stone Bricks: Approx 3500
Black Stained Glass: only about 200... The sphere is hollow
Black Dye Sacks: almost 1000 (THATS one of the reasons I added the flower mod. Pam'sflowers can be crafted into dye)
Soooooo.... I'll let the pictures tell the story.

Added the White Star... its the black tower... I know know... but the black star didn't show up at all. I'll use the black star for the white tower (built somewhere in the snow) later on
The Progress
Always.... step one, Clear a spot. Then...once its partially cleared, remember to build a dirt photo-pillar
Foundations
notice the dog leg in my photo-pillar in this pic? It has a platform at 64 and one at 128... this is gonna be one tall tower.
So, same shot from 128 high
This pic tells the story of how I selected the location for this tower. Knowing it was to be made with a LOT of Obsidian, I first went looking for a cavern with a HUGE lava flow. Once located, I dug straight up, and built the foundations. Then back down to build a safe room and start hacking at the obsidian.... for like two days straight.
OK, 5 stacks, thats enough to get started.
Notice all the other odd items in my inventory? They're colored smooth stone, gems, and metal ores from the aforementioned Pam's Earthcraft Mod. These mods are really making the game much much richer.Obsidian on the exterior, WAY lass expensive black stone bricks on the interior.Uhoh... 5 stacks didn’t go very far...So, back to the mine it is.And back to the crafting table for some more black stone bricks.Black on Black.... lemme tell you all something... with sloped blocks that one of these mods allows from obsidian, all of which get placed according to which direction you are facing (like steps)... this part of the structure CAN NOT be built in the dark.OK, so you know how it goes for a while... up, step in, up, step in, up step in....and keep bring the inner wall up to keep it level with the obsidian.Add the door,And the floor.And...... back for some more obsidian, lol.Add the ...spires?OK.... done with the Obsidian for a while... whew. This thing now goes up like 110 levels in four phases... gonna need a way to move around inside this monster while its being built. Bound to get shot off of it at least a few times and will need a way to get back on, lol. From 64 high platform.from 128 high platform (all the rest will be)The center column is a 'hollow x' with a ladder inside. Each place you see a 'node' you are looking at a four way door arch and a small platform, and that is the level where the tower exterior will get one size skinnier. Its a LONG way down … see the halfway point WAAAAY down there?And... here it goes, simple stuff for a couple hours.... Just... don’t... fall... off.Believe it or not, I NEVER learned how to 'sneak' in my last project... I just lived dangerously... but for this baby, I did the research, and bound a key on my game pad so that I can work on edges... I still fall off stuff, but not nearly as much.Good thing... the top steps out a couple of times... and its all non-forgiving Obsidian from here on up. /sigh. One wrong placement and its 8 seconds of dead time chipping it off.OH HELL YEAH! Looks better than I expected!Notice the photo-pillarNow to build the glass sphere... harder than I thought, until I found this wonderful webpage:Try ithttp://www.nateworld.com/mc/mcsg.htmlFirst, a temporary scaffold. You know, if youre completely used to building with fly, youre missing out of hald of what's fun in this game to me.... I have to EARN the right to get in the right place to build the next thing... its fun for me.Ill spare you the build, break, build, break, etc etc... of a see through sphere lol. Here's the finished product... with a black light torch block in the center (HATED it, so I took it out pretty quickly), and the sun shining through.
Finished Tower
Its wonderfully visible from a fairly long distance, and my vid card greys it out from far away. How freekin cool it THIS? Its like a shadow tower.I wish a screen shot at night was available, but Ive tried and the photo just doesn’t do the sight justice.... its almost invisable... unless you're moving... you'll just have to DL the world and see for yourself

This has brought the updates in synch with the actual project... almost. For the last week or so, while putting up all these updates, Ive been slowly laying out the first historic structure; Bohaim Castle. I decided to build it out in the sea, rather than dig out a continent sized mote, so the laying out has been VERY VERY slow. Ive got a lot done, but not enough to start showing the progress. close, but not yet. I believe that before I start the Bohaim update... I'll TOTALLY retune this thread, as discussed in previous posts. Soon the first post will have an index of sorts linking to every significant update throughout the thread, along with a constantly updated link to the latest world DL, and a spoiler with a link to the paint plans as they become available in the updates. Expect the thread re-tune in the next few days, and the first Bohaim Update maybe this weekend.
As always, your comments, both critical and constructive will be most welcomed.
Tower looks awesome! I'd have gone absolutely insane trying to mine that obsidian. Maybe with enchants its not as bad as I remember, but... *shudders* Painful!
Yep. Its been built for a long time. 3 weeks probably?
Yea, I read the whole thread so I know why the thread isn't in sync with real time. Just thought I'd let you know. :3T
Tower looks friggin amazing anyways.

Thanks, all...
Makes me wonder if I should be spending all this time on historic castles or instead, go for more of these imaginary ones....... until I get going on some massive historical build, and then the reproducer comes back out in me.
For example;
Here's a sneak preview of Bodhaim Castle
Right about here, Im saying "WTF am I thinking trying to build this behemoth in th emiddle of a 12-15 block deep ocean"?
Then I get started with the measurements and the details
lol You should do both! I think your already an amazing builder and it would be awesome to see what more you could do with a bit more freedom and some creative imagination
Dude you are so inspiring! i love the way you build, and i followed (lurked in) your old castle thread for like forever! I do think you should go a little easy on the massive amount of work you are giving yourself though
What a project! I'm so glad you have the patience an wherewithal to keep going. Also, I love the mod pack you put together for this project. I've started plying with it myself and I'm totally hooked on it. So many new options!
You my friend need to start a youtube series, but any way love the builds you are simply the most dedicated person to minecraft ever and makes me want to start my own project.
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
"DA DA DA NUNA DA DA DA OMG BLAAAH" -UberHaxorNova GayTonying on minecraft.
I hope he never starts a minecraft series. That will make him take 10 times longer to build things, plus most would be edited out so there is no real point to making one. I don't think it would be good thing, because pictures are 20 times better than video. Maybe he could make a video showing off each complete build but other than that hopefully not.
Well, boys (and girls?)... Bodiam is well underway...
This is the LAST time I build in the ocean though... looks good but, dealing with slowed movement and breath issues is wearing me out! Only about two more hours of swim-building and the rest will be dry-work.
Wow, that is actually pretty helpful. I now know why so many of my builds have failed. Lol

As for pics, Google Earth is my best recommendation. The 'ruler' tool allows one to get a REALLY accurately measured footprint.
Here is a screenshot of Arundel Castle with te ruler in action;
