Anyways. Swervish, do you just have massive quantities of chests lined up for storage? I'd like to see your storage layout sometime.
Storage functions are greatly aided by two of my mods; backpacks and useful chests.
Ill be sure to provide detail on this topic in the first Durham update

Thanks! Ah yes, backpacks would help considerably. I'm unsure of what useful chests is. Time to go look! I'm just more interested in the layout of your chest facility, if there is one of those.
Whew, if you could show us your animal farms and such (for leather) that'd be great!
because I have to constantly mine exp to keep my tools enchanted, I kill TONS of zombies. I use fortune on my sword so they drop lots of rotten meat. One of my mods allows rotten meat to be smelted into leather. So, no need for a cattle farm.
I just realized... im pretty much a MC Vegetarian. Bread and vegi stews are about all I eat. So, havent had need of animal farms as of yet.. for the interior of Durham, I'll be using many materials, including colored wools, so a sheep farm will be built near the grounds at some point.

Ooooh, that's awesome. Still can't wait for the next update :B
As always, best of luck.
I am well past the halfway point on phase one of the 'Big Dig'.
Hopefully, I can get it finished this weekend.
Phase one is the space needed for the cathedral proper.
Phase two and three will be the space for the attached cloisters and offices, and the separate castle structure.
I will begin construction of the cathedral next, rather than dig out the other two spaces.
Come on Swervish, open up the map as a server, we can all help you dig. This should shave alot of time off and help you out on your awesome project. BTW just found this so +1 to you
LOL... Im not a computer wiz, guys. My public history on this forum should evidence that well enough.
Im VERY sure it would take me longer to 'open up the map as a server' (?) than it would to just finish digging out the hole.
Servers are a hassle to upkeep and such, especially if you have a crappy computer (Me.) Anyhow, Swervish, didn't you say there'd be an update soon!?!
The dig is basically finished.
I still have to pullout a lot of wasteland infected blocks (that are currently quarantined) and all the ores/colored stone/gravel/dirt from the base layer. Bout half done 'paving' the base layer with smooth stone, and dreading the wasteland work.
So here's the rub on an update;
The next one will be the 'Durham Begins' post. To me, that is kind of a big deal (and its my project after all).... so just the hole in the ground isnt enough. I will wait until I have, at the very least, one layer of the exterior foundations laid down on the base level before I craft an update. That way you will get;
1 research phase
2 paint planning (in massive detail)
3 site prep
4 the dig
5 the layout of markers
6 the footings
I know you are probably busy with RL holiday stuff, but I am excited to see the next update. Also I have started a build on my server that is using a modified version of the black tower, so thank you for posting your blueprints.

Yes,,, ill be building a gentle slope down into the foundations.

Each Backpack holds 27 stacks.
Each chest can hold up to 1040 backpacks
Each block type will get its own 'useful chest' on this build... just for simplicities sake
recipes:
each backpack is 8 leather and one dye
(one of the mods (i think) makes 1 leather from 1 smelted rotten flesh)
each useful chest is one normal chest surrounded by 4 diamonds and 4 iron ingots.

No excavation burnout detected at this point.
But Im somewhere around the 85% mark, so I can finish off the phase one dig no problem.
Cant wait to build a pillar or two.

I went to the University, lived in Durham for 5 years and had my graduation ceremony inside the Cathedral. This had better be good!
