Personally I am excited to see you do Caerlaverock. Its not as "grand" as some of the others but it is beautiful.
Ahhhhh yes, the triangle castle. I REALLY like this one. It will require some serious design work, though. If I cant satisfy myself on paper, I wont start the build, and as I said.... tough tough translation to minecraft
.
Hah not enough votes? Put that poll up a week or so before you start and you'll pleeeenty. You've got quite a few people interested in this thread Swervish
And I personally would like to see how that fort turns out, might be a nice little project before taking on something 3x the size of Bodiam! xP

This project (as the title and the first post indicate) is all about 'British' castles.
But, I say.... YOU buiild it!... DL my game save, use the stored materials, and go for it.
Awwww.... Can you at least tell us how many diamonds you have???
On a different note, will all your farms be built like they would have been during the time period of this build, or will you be making some fancy, automatic harvesting ones?

OK Im guessing this 'how many diamonds do you have' is a MCForum meme of some kind that wasted youth finds humorous or something.
And I dont do automated anything.
Build it
Plow it
Plant it
Wait
Harvest it
Re-plant it..... 4000 or 5000 blocks at a time
...and that skeleton was always teased for not having any brains...
Anyways, Swervish, truly inspiring work you're doing there. I'm a 28 year old nursing student, and you've been a joy to follow. I don't quite have the level of patience that you do; however, I find myself starting to use some of your techniques in my own builds. You've helped me rediscover the game, and find some joy during my rare free time.
I would second the idea of posting a poll, if you're truly interested in community feedback. However, I share your worries that it might not be practical. Granted, I don't know how the polls work on these sites, but I see it being easily missed, as people (meaning, those who don't check on you every third day) will just quickly jump to the last page to track your progress.
Lastly, I don't quite understand your determination to farm 'old-school.' Granted, I don't have your patience...however, it would be fairly similar in principle to the tree-chopping mod. ...not a challenge, just a difference of opinion. My wheat and tree farms in survival mode, using your mod packages, span 100x100, and let me get back to work quickly.
Back to work for the both of us, and look forward to your updates
Wow. Can't wait for the next update! How do you know what the interiors look like? Do you base it off of pictures, make it up, or (and excuse me for my slight disbelief) visit the castle before hand?
The castle is an abandoned landmark now. There are no interiors or even inside walls or buildings standing; only the towers and battlements remain. Also, I could not find ANY drawings of the inside at all to design from.
The footprints of the interior walls (foundations) still exist, so im honoring those. But as for rooms/ roofs? I'm making them up as I go.
I'm at about the halfway point on interior buildings
Three floors here
Upstairs is low headroom in the eves with a center aisle, used for storage. Second floor, soldiers quarters, with the stables on the ground floor. Imagine the smell.
The roofs are ALL solid... its just that the mapping mod doesn't render Pam's Mods red-dyed wood Half Slabs.... bleh, two mods not talking to each other... bleh
Comin along
Still haven't even started on the Towers' spiral stairs and defensive rooms w arrow slits and windows. (I do have the Murder Holes in the postern gate ceiling though, Bwahahaha)
As a student in Durham, I'd love it if you built the castle and cathedral. Would you leave the castle as a castle, or make it as a college like it is today?
Keep going with the current build though, you must have spent hours!
I can only answer that by saying this: It is my intention during this project to honor as closely as possible, the original design and purpose of these structures... so castles will be castles. That being said, I haven't done the 'historical research' on Durham. Only the visual research. Until I read your question... I wasn't even yet aware that Durham Castle is now a college. I wonder how much of the exterior has changed? And when it comes to designing and planning, my ABSOLUTE most powerful tool is Google Earth (as demonstrated in a previous post in this thread), and it of course provides a reference to these structures only in current form. I can easily enough take away anything that is obviously a modern addition, like solar panels, and water towers, but adding in anything that used to be part of the structure, but now doesn't exist in the current Google Earth tool, is exceedingly difficult.....
I will do my best to keep it a Castle. Hope that answers you to some extent.
I have like 130 new pictures of 4 new phases of construction..... But I have no motivation to build the update.... blehhh- it will take 90 minutes or better to slowly copy/past/caption them.
I really enjoyed the interiors that I have done so far, and I think they look pretty darn good considering they are basically only floors/ ceilings/ chandeliers improvements only and no furniture whatsoever.... and I took TONS of photos all the way along.... but blehhhhh I dont wanna spend the time to build the update.
Maybe I should just do 4 little mini-updates?
Whatever it is... it aint happening tonight. Im going on a couple LOOOOONG distance exploring runs. Need to expand my map by a couple thousand blocks in every direction if Im going to start finding locations for additional structures.
Jee, I understand that the updates are now in-sync with real time. And I'm still awed by the speed of your construction. Honestly, where DO you find the TIME to do this!? xD
Couple - three hours a night, and during football Sunday. Plus every now and then I ditch the office for a day and put in 7 or 8 hours. If I wasnt building, Id be playing golf or fly fishing.... so actually this saves me a LOT of money.

OK... Touche'
Yeah, that is why I did the plans early... plus it calls for some interesting materials (as opposed to the all stone brick all the time Bodiam :/)
Yeah, thats a cool structure,..... but .....

INTERIORS TAKE FOREVER
Swervish has been nominated for next year's Nobel Prize in Absolute Awesome.

Am I right? in 1.2.5, the limit is 256?
COME ON!!!!?????
The main tower on the Durham Cathedral is 218 ft.
COME ON MAN!!
