I would suggest using those gorgeous cracked stones in a pattern resembling a worn-down, damaged wall if your project ever sees one. Not unlike the one seen in . In my opinion, that can be a quintessential representation of aging within the -- who am I kidding with the big words... that would look pretty damn sweet.
--snipped--
Im thinking that the cracked will be used building a ruined castle. I have a few in mind, but most likely this one:
The mossy stone brick (as well as the mossy cobble from the various monster spawner rooms Ive been clearing) will be used all over the Heptarchy.... little bridges, country houses, city wells, abandoned structures and mine/cave entrances that are close to builds, etc.
update.... YES
lol funny update can i suggest you enchant your diamond picks with stuff like unbreaking, silk touch and efficency?
In the short term it may seem not worth it but in the long term it actually is. Unbreaking saves your picks, efficency makes everything go way faster, and stuff like silk touch means you dont have to smelt!
All in all enchantments are worth it long term and i reccomend using them!

LOL, yeah, figured that out a couple weeks ago. Thats whi Im a mining MONSTER... with those picks, and the backpack mod, I can mine somewhere in the neighborhood of ten times as much stone/ore per hour as I could in vanilla.... and I STILL spend ave 15-18 hours mining per week.
That is EXACTLY how I have my picks enchanted... 5 of them, and a 6th with Fortune for mining gems, coal etc.
WHOOOOT!
Who else is excited about a whole night of mining?... (Is there something wrong with me?)
Should be able to harvest 200+ stacks of stone tonight before I give up... about 2/3 of what I need to finish Bodiam stonework (courtyard grass, roofs and interiors not withstanding)
Maybe, if I get motivated, I'll put up serious update tonight. If not tonight, then for sure tomorrow night, I promise.
(Bodiam main structure is about 1/2 done)
YAY UPDATE!!!!
And 200 stacks? Jee-zus!
I'm super excited to see Bodiam!!
200... yah, Im a machine... I TOTALLY have an efficient method down now.
Im at 59 stacks now, but will take about 45 minutes now to start 8 column tops on the ceiling.
200 should be in reach before I hit the rack ... in more ways than one
Im getting some good pics along the way tonight ... planning a little step by step on how I do it... maybe an update of its own. "Speed-Mining with Swervish"
And just because Im a glutton for praise... here's a sneak of Bodiam
Let me translate the way that this mapping mod renders .... the lighter color blocks are higher in elevation (closer to the sun I guess?)
So this picture shows that I have the entire 'front' of the castle done; two towers the gatehouse and the curtain walls connecting them... plus one additional corner tower and one of the square side towers. That means only two of the square towers (they go up pretty quickly) and one more corner tower. Then the very quick, but stone brick hungry curtain walls to tie it all together.
I probably only have 4-5 hours of actual build time remaining, because everything from here out ia a repeat of some feature or element that Ive already completed. That means no time consuming re-designing/teardown/rebuilding. The limiting factor right now is the mining... hopefully finish that up tonight. Wish me luck.
It took 18 stacks to craft and assemble the tops of the columns, so Im down to 41. But, thats the hungry part of the column.... Now bare down and swing that pick.
Haha, forgive me if you've already explained this. But about how many stacks of any given material is it going to take to build this outside of this castle?

I've got a question Swervish. How did you get all your mods to not conflict? I'm using a 1.3.2 world and I've got Pam's combined mods, Backpacks, Super slops and frames, and Rei's minimap. Backpacks and super slopes/frames conflict for some reason and I don't know how to get it working ._.
This is the biggest element to the whole project, and it took a while.
Front top arch and gate flank wall fronts
Gate arch and doorway
The portcullis wall (no portcullis, just calling it that). Ignore the dirt scaffold near the top.
Start the crenelations
The rest is pretty much repetition all the way around
Then bringing up all the interior walls
Putting roofs on. The roofs of the gate house are all stone. The roofs of the towers (coming later) will vary greatly.
Aaaaaand, we'll call this done for now.
The small access stair tower has since been redesigned and rebuilt. Every tower in the castle has an identical access stair tower, and the one I built previously on the round tower has been rebuilt to match. You'll see these eventually.
Step Seven → The Front Corner Towers
A step by step:
1- A single pillar goes up to the correct height.
2- Get on top of the ring. Jump/place two blocks underneath you. Run around the ring, each step adding two levels to the block in front and below you. When you hit the 'height pillar' turn around and repeat in the other direction.
3- Boom. Inner wall is done.
4- Add access stair tower (attached) - same method
5- Add outer wall - same method Nnotice the flat/diagonal portion... looks awful now, but each tower, where it faces the interior of the castle offers this diagonal wall to the courtyard, and they look better from there than a small portion of a MC-curve Call it a design compromise that is demanded by our 'blocky-world' limitations.
6- Add Crenelations -NOTHING in my designs is harder to accomplish than curved crenelations /sigh
7- The unfinished roof. Will finish these once I have all four Towers built.
8- Repeat the exact process on the other side
---FORGOT TO TAKE PICTURE -sorry
Step Eight → The Front Curtain Walls
Although they eat up blocks big time, these are a piece of cake to build.
One
Two
Done
Step Nine → Side Tower One
Holy smokes, did I ever slip on the screen shots here, sorry. But it's pretty straight forward really. Build an outer and an inner wall with the 'step, place, place, repeat' wall building method. And as you spend the time to measure accurately in the paint-design phase, the crenelations go on smooth and fast on a square tower or a flat wall.
This was so simple (although time consuming) part of the build, that I forgot to come down and take any pics along the way.
By the time I remembered you guys, I was already building the crenelations.
Walls and Crenelation bases are done and Im putting on the flat roof in my preferred diagonal “be very careful not to fall off” method.
Roof on
From the inside. There will be TONS of room for interesting interiors in these towers.
Finish upper crenelations. HEY! He's shooting at me! Gotta tell yas though, Im COMPLETELY used to being surrounded. I have GREAT armor and a GREAT sword that is hotkeyed, and I'll gladly suck up the exp for additional enchanting, so I have left the flat spaces unlit for the most part.
Keeps me busy at times though.
Finished and lit (notice the corrected access stair tower)
And a couple 'progress-so-far' shots to finish up this update.
Taken from what will be the inner doorway of the rear gatehouse
Taken from the foundations of the not yet started fourth corner tower
From the front photo-pillar
From Closest Land
And the farthest spot away that can still pick up the whole structure
Oh dear Swervish, such an awe inspiring dedication to the craft you have! Truly this castle is magnificent thus far. I'm curious, will you make use of super slopes in this particular build? :3

Check the initial update on this structure.

I mathed it all out in there.
And sorry about the non-update; I did unusually well at the cigar-club poker game and didnt get home til late.
Also had to change a LOT of the block IDs in the config files. <- Ill bet this is your solution.
