Another amazing project form the capable and determined hands of Swervish Great success so far I hope you can make it to the finish line
I have been messing with some mods recently and tried your config, but without some additions and my Minecraft freezes after saving chunks. I installed ModLoader first, then Forge. How did you make it? =)
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
when winter comes the lonely wolf dies, but the pack survives
Must be a bit time consuming filling in part of that ocean xD
This is going to look epic...
Yeah, time consuming... thats th eword for it. lol.
But epic. Dont count on it. Huge? yes. Hulking? yes Impressive? yes. But it is just too simple of a structure to be epic. I wanted to start with a simple castle... this is it. Simple.
Ill work my way up to epic. Harkworth Castle, Lincoln Cathedral... both beautiful.
But epic? Dover castle, Buckingham palace, or the one Im drawing plans for now; Hampton Court Palace.... FREEKIN EPIC... Eight Bodiam Castles would fit inside Hampton Court Palace. It will cover 4-6 full Biomes or Durnham Castle, Palace, and Cathedral... all in one complex... Now THATS Epic.
Sorry about the lack of attention.
In the past 8 days, Ive more than quadrupled the mine. next time i put up a DL, go check out the shere size of it
I've stored away appx 175K cobble/stone so far. (gonna need millions of blocks for this project, you know... yes literally).
Look for a brand new fresh project phase to begin later today/tonight via update to this thread... Bodiam Castle is well underway.
...And do you go down to the bottom ocean layer and just swim up whilst placing blocks to get rid of the water?
Nope... you'll see in the update...... hint, not all blocks are created equal ;)HAH!! just got the text... My hunny is on the way over for some luvin, lol ...
update will come later tonight rather than this afternoon
Nothing new... This structure will be 100% vanilla (I think)
Stats:
Blocks used:
Dirt ~3200
Cobblestone ~14,000 (building the skirt)
Stone Bricks ~4,400 (for the first round tower alone)
~13,000 (floors)
~2,600 (for one single layer of the rest of the structure walls)
That’s what I've used up through this update.
Here's a look at the future:
Bear in mind that the walls average 27 blocks in height, the round towers, gatehouse, and square towers are 46 high.... that means I'm looking at the following math for this structure alone:
Walls = (2600 X 27) = 70,200
Round Towers = (4,400 X 4) = 17,600
Square Towers (2,570 X 3) = 10,300
Gate House Towers (4,800 X 2) = 9,600
TOTAL STONE BRICKS = 120,700 … give or take a stack
Sooooooo, now you know why I've been in the mine for the last 8 days huh?
The Pics
So, as you can see from the pics (and below in the plans) this thing sits in a big big mote. Really, its a small lake. At the scale that Im building, what we are talking about is basically a MC ocean with a structure the size of a small biome in the middle, like an island.... so rather than build it on land and spend a week digging out a mote, I decided to build it in the middle of the ocean. I will never EVER build over water again. Try it some time and you'll know why.
Step One → lay out
This looks like a good spot:
First things first... a safe house; bed, chests, crafting table etc.
Add a photo pillar
Next, lets lay out some markers.... in the middle of an ocean, mind you.
k, got 4 corners layed out (for a structure with NO CORNERS mind you). Sorry bout the MC fish eye perspective... this is actually a right angle (is there anything else in MC?) /sigh... middle of the ocean... still … creeper, /sigh.
And might as well lay in a one block wide running lane from the structure to the safe house
And I can tell already, this photo pillar wont be of use any more... its too far away.
So after 4 or 5 tries, I found just the right spot to see the whole thing... BOOM new pillar
Step Two → Footprint
hummmmm … a circle, made out of squares, in the ocean, with nothing underneath.
Right about this point in the project... I hate everything. (except colored torches)... (and sneak)
Now the inner wall and fill in the wall with dirt (gonna be WAY to expensive to fill the entire walls with stone)
And, since this tower is going to be closest to my base, Im going to take the interior all the way to seabed, and dry out the space... with sand.... about 2100 blocks of sand (that will get recycled)
Time to go get some sand
[no pic]... crap, I dont have any pics of my sand pit. Suffice to say, its big, and will eventually get huge lol.
I DO have a pick of my sand pit 'safe house'... its underground.
If you happen to be running around my world, and run across a hole in the ground with a torch next to it.... its a safe house, just so you know.
Ok, impossible to do with pics.... gonna have to type you through it.
Sand drying a cavity is actually very simple, if time consuming, and what Im about to show you is a translation of how the ancient Egyptians and greeks did this, before they invented the water screw.
Step one: Build a 'casement' (a ring of pillars with no gaps)in the water, from sea bed up to surface.
Step two: Get about 1.4 metric ****-tons of sand.
Step three: place a sand block on the side of the top ring of the casement and let it sink. Repeat until the sand blocks self-stack to form a sand pillar.
Step four: repeat until the ENTIRE casement is full of sand.
Step five: Dig out all the sand.
Digging out 2100 sand blocks from the bottom
It took so long that I will NOT be doing this with a space that is approximately 300,000 square blocks.
This sucker is going to have a water basement... deal with it.
Now, slowly but surely, lay out the rest of the footprint.... the whole damn thing in backwards-sneak (legit builders will know what I mean by that.)
A shot about 20% done with the walls and floors, but th eshape is showing. (LOVE this map mod for play, but LOVE LOVE LOVE it for update pics like this)
And... all the walls are in place (lol floating)
Kinda gets busy around here at night by the way
BLAM

Step Three → The Foundations (Skirt Wall)
So, after deciding that I dont want to sand-dry this whole damn thing, which will take until Halloween, I decided to just build a single wall under the entire outside edge of the wall all the way to the bottom.
Building underwater is freekin slow slow slow... took about 14 hours. And really hard to get a usable pic
All the while just racking up the EXP though... come to daddy, and daddy's badass Sharpness V diamond sword!
Step Four → The floors
And how about some floors on the inner rooms?
Wow does this monster come in handy
But it is a hungry beast
The cobble and the stone bricks were not looking different enough on the far away overheads, so for visual effect improvement in these pics, I added in one layer of all the walls.
Step Five → Tower One
One pillar at a time, 46 blocks straight up in the jump/place method, then over the side into the water (the ONLY advantage of building in the ocean, is that you dont have to go down ladders all day).
Outer ring is done
Then the inner... blah, ladders
Tower walls are done
Add the crenelations, the small access turret(dont like it, will redisign later) and the cap floors (will vault the interior later (maybe))
Its gonna be a biggun lol
The Plans
You're Going to have to wait for a DL of these... It takes a while to build these legit...
I ABSOLUTELY do intend to share all my plans, and I really look forward to see some reader COMPLETELY outdo me with my own plans. But call me selfish, it taking a long time to build these things legit, I would hate it if a creative/fly/too-many-items builder beat me to a finished castle. So I will not be posting DL-able plans until AFTER each structure is complete.
Meanwhile, here is a screeny of what I'm using
Current world DL
As the build is once again slightly ahead of the updates, you're gonna have to wait for this.

Havent decided yet. size is a concern.
Well,
I'll be building 'towns' around a few of them... at least I plan to.
But keep in mind, It will take over a month to build each castle, and even if I only do half of them...
