Thanks. I wouldn't know where to begin with creating a texture pack from scratch! I suppose doing this is a handy first step towards learning, though.
I've added some sails to that Smuggler's Ketch tonight. I still might tweak the sail colour (I think it's looking too yellow/green, needs a prod towards the redder end of the spectrum, I think), and I need to give it a nice spot in my main ocean map, then I'll take some more screenshots and add it to the first post.
I'm still not sure what to do after that. I've still got a brigantine trader in mind, and a post-ship, and another 74, an 80, a 120...
A ship texture pack would be very useful. there are no good ones out there. I'm also looking forward to those new ships!
Nice ship! I'm interested in seeing the Post ship... Just sayin'.
I started work on a second 74 at the weekend, building the bow and the hull a little way back from it. But perhaps I might just start a post ship as well. Probably something like 22 guns, I'm thinking. A little like a smaller version of my 6th rate frigate...

Yeah, a dedicated ship pack would be great. I'm not sure I'm up to creating an entire pack from scratch though, let along putting in the time that it would require.
It's been a while since I've done any shipbuilding, but I've been doing some just now. 3rd rate-age.
I've been modifying the stern of my 74. I wasn't happy with it as it is; the stern cabins were far too narrow. The ship tapered off too much towards the back, so I've done a bit of chopping about to widen it and make it more like my 2nd rate's stern. This is the new version on the right:
I've also been working on another 74, this one more based on the 'heavy' 74 designs that were slightly longer and carried heavier cannon on the upper gun deck, 24 pounders rather than 18 pounders. The section of hull on the left of that screenshot is the new 74 at an early stage.
Here's a newer screenshot of half of the hull from the 'inside'. I thought that might be an interesting image to post up here.
Also using that same stern style. I'll certainly do a version with the same shape but my new 'stern blocks', but I'd like to keep the first version of each ship as one that will work in any standard texture pack, and then modify it from there to use my custom textures. That way, if I ever lose that texture pack or I let people download these (maybe one day!) then they'll look good without the custom textures.
Nice to see that you are still building! Nice looking Third Rate! I don't know if I ever mentioned this but, your texture pack modifications looks amazing!

Thanks! I'm building a bit slower than I used to, just because I don't get on minecraft quite so often. The texture pack mods are still a work in progress, though. Probably because I haven't been spending too much time on it. The new wool colours are sorted, because they were quick and easy, but deciding just what selection of blocks I want for my sterns is the trickier bit. What sort of patterns I want on them, mainly, and how well I can execute it. When I'm finished with this 74 I'll swap the stern over to my new blocks for the modded version.
Another nice ship, but why do you always choose the same depressing colour scheme? Maybe spice it up a bit? Here's an example of my French colour scheme on a 3rd Rate:
Cheers. I don't really find it depressing; to me it's quite nice and understated. But there's a couple of reasons mainly. One is that I'm used to it now, and the other is that I want all my ships of the line to be in the same colour scheme so that when I feel like I've got enough of them I can do a map where I put them all together as a battle squadron. The main reason I'm doing this second 74 is because there would be many 74s in the battle squadron and I don't want them all to be identical! I might do a third one at some point too...
I might experiment a bit with my texture pack mods. For example, I've got a re-tinted wood block that has the wood texture but with a more golden sort of colour to it, so I could do a proper Nelson Chequer. Or I could try a red-tinted wood, and so on. But even then I'd probably stick with this 'unedited' colour scheme for Version 1.0.
But for my non-navy ships, anything goes. I still tend to prefer more subdued colours, but I like changing them up a bit. On the other hand, I really like the varied colour schemes that you use.
Just a little bit of progress today; she's been launched.
I shall name her Audacious.
Just need to do my sails set version now.
As for what I'm planning on doing next, I'm still not sure what order.
For my full selection for a nice fleet, I still want many more ships. I'll bring some of the older ones up to spec (I'm notably thinking about the sterns of my older third rates, Vanguard and Diomedes, and the bow of Diomedes)
And after that, I fancy adding
A First Rate 120 based on Sané's Ocean class.
A First Rate 100, RN style
A Third Rate 80 based on Sané's Tonnant class
Maybe yet another Third Rate 74 (there were a lot of them!)
A Fourth Rate, because I don't have one yet.
Then I think I'll be in a great position to create a diverse battle fleet. Maybe even a diorama based on a real battle. The main problem I see there is that all the ships would have to be parallel or at right angles to each other!
I also fancy doing a customs lugger to chase my smuggler's ketch
A brigantine trader
Another East Indiaman
A schooner...
Blimey, that lot might take me rather a long time.

Wow, lots of plans. Good luck!
The new 'un's looking good.
Use your ship texture pack!

Lots of plans that will take me rather a long time! On top of that I'm really starting to like the idea of doing a texture pack from scratch, which I could see taking ages...
I'll do a version with my nodded textures pretty soon, but I still haven't finalised my stern blocks. There's one or two I want to alter, though I suppose it can't hurt to do a version with the textures as they stand now.
A cutter is a small ship with a single mast. This is probably a coastal boat, sailing between ports up the same stretch of coast. Or along wide rivers. Perhaps it even carries a harbour pilot to guide larger vessels into port.
Would I be allowed to copy this one for a server I play on?

By all means, feel free to use it as a guide. But I'm afraid I haven't put a world save or schematics online or anything like that. I might do at some point, but it's not likely to happen soon.
I've been away for a while, so it's been a couple of weeks since I've done any shipbuilding. I think I'll try to get some sails on my new 3rd rate this weekend, and maybe finish editing my previous 3rd rate. They'll end up very similar, but different in a few key areas. Just like real ship classes of the period. My battle squadron needs a variety of 74's, not the same one over and over again!
I've finished the new 3rd rate today. More pictures in the first post.
I also modified my previous two 3rd rates, my 64 and my 74. The 64 has a modified beakhead and stern, the 74 has a modified stern. Got the new texture pack on them too. Here's my three 3rd rates together...
Now I'm trying to decide what to build next. It's between a post ship, a brigantine and a 1st rate.
Looks really good! I love the rigging. Do you ever add interiors to your ships? I might just fool around and put one in your 2nd rate if I find the time to do it...
...actually, created is a bit much.... Thought of. That's more accurate.

I haven't done any line ships in a while. Nor any proper work Maybe I should build another warship.

Well don't that beat all!
Maybe if you worked on a large scale with this pack, you could get that curve in the rails:
