I've added a couple of new ships to the thread in the last few days. The first is the German battlecruiser SMS Lützow, which was the second Derfflinger-class ship. She differed from Derfflinger in having an extra pair of secondary guns and a deal more superstructure, probably because of her role as the Scouting Force flagship.
The second ship is the British battlecruiser HMS Indefatigable, the lead ship of her class, the second class of battlecruisers built for the Royal Navy. She was essentially an enlarged Invincible class, so I used my HMS Invincible model as a base and modified it. Both ships have been added to the first post with more history and more screenshots.
Hey there. I'll come by your thread and have a look, always happy to comment on ships. I'll often think that we've chosen one of the more difficult subjects to do justice in Minecraft, and I'm often amazed at how well people can pull it off beautifully. I also love that anybody who builds more than a few ships develops their own recognisable style. There's something satisfying about looking at a nice build and having a good idea of who did it.
I've occasionally been searching for reference material myself, and it's quite a bizarre feeling when an image of one of my older ships pops up in google images. It's also pretty cool, I suppose. Makes me wonder just how many people who have no interest in Minecraft whatsoever have seen them.

I've got a few more WWI era ships that I've built for my Jutland Project that I haven't put in this thread yet, Royal Navy Acasta-class destroyers and Town-class light cruisers. I'll need to get around to that at some point.
I'm currently working on the Kaiserliche Marine's Kaiser-class battleship SMS Friedrich der Große, flagship of the Hochseeflotte through most of WWI. I'll also do a slightly altered version for her sister ship SMS Prinzregent Luitpold. The only difference is that Prinzregent Luitpold had two shafts instead of the usual three - she was going to have a diesel engine on the central shaft, but it wasn't ready and so the central shaft wasn't installed. Above the waterline it will look identical, but as part of my quest for completeness in Project Jutland it needs to be done.
Hey everybody. I've not updated this thread as of late, but I've still been building a lot of ships for my Jutland project. However, while I've been putting one screenshot of each new ship into the project thread, I've fallen behind on adding them into this thread. It'll take ages just pasting in the image links and typing them up, but I've made a start.
So I've updated the first post with a couple of variants of the Acasta class destroyer, the five variants of the Town class light cruiser and the battleship SMS Friedrich der Große. I've still got loads of ships to add to catch up to where my Project Jutland thread has got to, but I'll try to get them added in. You can have a look at that thread if you want to see which ships are still to come in this one!
As a taster of what's in the first post, here's Friedrich der Große.
Wow, such majestic fleets have inspired me to make my own, when it will let me actually make a thread I'll make a thread of my ships. but in the mean time this will have to do.*pic*
it is an imitation of your art form, not truly based off of any one ship.
As I said in the other thread, she's looking good. I'll keep an eye out for that thread when it'll let you make it.
I've updated the first post with a few more ships, though it's still lagging behind where I am with adding the ships to my Project Jutland thread. I really need to catch up with adding them here! I've got over a dozen that I need to add...
Hey folks, I've added several new First World War ships to the first post. I'm still massively behind on getting them put up here, but this is a start at rectifying that, at least! As ever, if you want to catch a glimpse of the newer ships, they can be found in my Project Jutland thread, though there's only one screenshot each over there.
Wow, your ships are absolutely stunning, ConfuseACat! I especially love the sailing frigates.
Do you use either of Archimedes Ships Plus or Cuchaz's Ships Mod to launch them and sail them around?
Thanks.
I haven't built any sailing ships in a long time, maybe I ought to do a few more at some point. I seem to recall that a couple of years back I had plans for a post-ship, a 3rd rate 80 and an improved 1st rate. But then I got caught up in Dreadnoughts and didn't look back.
I've never used any mods to actually sail them; the whole enjoyment of it for me has always been the build itself. And I expect a lot of them are large enough that the mods might struggle!

I feel that I need to put my most recent build here, but I don't know how it might fit into the first post considering that it's using a different scale. I'd seen a few excellent 4:1 scale ships over on PMC. I thought they were fantastic in the extra detail that the builders could get in over and above 1:1, and some of their renders looked almost like the real thing.
So I decided to do my own 4:1 ship, and spent a few weeks building it. It took a lot longer than 1:1s ever did. When you think about it, what was one block in 1:1 scale becomes 4x4x4=64 blocks in 4:1 scale. Phew.
Anyway, I picked my favourite ship of the Dreadnought era and got building. This is the result:

I'm pretty pleased with the result to say the least. I've uploaded the world save:
Great builds man, inspiring to say the least. Do you have any plans on any other sailing vessels in the near future? Maybe merchant ships and the such. Would love to see what you came up with! Keep up the great work man!

Hi, and thanks.
I don't have any plans at the moment - I haven't played Minecraft in a couple of months now, I don't really have the time for it; too many other things that I'm up to that take up my time. If I do come back to it, I'll probably work on something large scale again.
I didn't post it in here, but the last ship I finished was a 4:1 scale version of SMS Lützow, the sister ship of SMS Derfflinger. I had to make quite a few changes, and even though she's superficially the same class as Derfflinger, the alterations probably took longer than an entire 1:1 build would have! I loved working in 4:1 scale. It took a long time, but the extra detail was definitely worth it.
Some of the pictures won't load with me, it begins good, but at ome point no more pictures load, I don't know if the problem is with me or with you, but if you see this, could you please check if it all works?

Hey there. I'm not sure what the problem might be, all of the pictures are loading fine for me at my end. Might be something to do with the fact that there are rather a lot of them, perhaps? I'd forgotten how many ships I'd posted on the first page.
In fact, I've finished another couple of 4:1 builds since I last updated, and I'm sure there's plenty of 1:1 ships that I never got around to putting on here. I should probably update the first post again at some point!

I just made a thread of my own where I intend to post more of my builds. http://www.minecraftforum.net/forums/show-your-creation/screenshots/2281501-panzergrafs-builds-mostly-ships-and-castles I'd really love some feedback and tips for my current Third Rate build, (pics in my imgur album) searching for reference material for it is how I came across your thread, and this forum.

Looks great - quite realistic. Getting the contours of the hull right must have been a ton of work.

Cool! That is awesome man! Thanks for the reply.
Dear ConfuseACat,
What lovely ships you have there. I have much to learn from you.
Kind Regards,
