Simply incredible. That's a hell of a program you've got there. How does it work exactly? I suppose what I'm wondering is what range of games can it work with - what are the criteria? Using this would make my own world-building project a breeze.

All the stars, Fearlessly bright, They call me out there.
I'd also love a link to this map (once you're ready to post it). Even as someone who never really got into World of Warcraft, I'm just interested in the sheer size of this project ... and yes, I would say your work in making this project with a piece of custom software is as impressive, and in some ways more-so, than building it by hand in the game.
But as a player of Minecraft specifically, this map looks really interesting. Keep us posted!
I havent played wow in like 4 years but i just wanted to say.. WOW! :blink.gif: :ohmy.gif: Unfrigginbelievable! I wish you the best of luck and would love to see the finished project!
How exactly is this done? I realise that you have written a script, but what data are you feeding it? The actual terrain files from WoW?
Can you enlighten me on the theory behind it?
I find this kind of stuff fascinating :biggrin.gif:
My guess is that he opened up the world.MPQ files. I would not be surprised if he has also fiddled in the ways of a WoW private server. The stuff inside those files is just amazing to look at.
So basically you want to play wow with worse graphics?
Well, worse graphics, worse gameplay, and no subscription fee. For some people I imagine that's a fair compromise. ...not me, personally, but some people.
I wonder if I'm the only one looking at these shots and being a little disappointed he decided to convert the current WoW rather than pre-Cataclysm. :|
My pet project has been to recreate a full-scale version of World of Warcraft inside Minecraft. The creation of the world is largely automated by custom software which I've been developing over the last few weeks. It's just now reached a point where I can release some quality screenshots!
Below you will see vistas from the first zone I have converted, Kalimdor, that I believe are very faithful to the original World of Warcraft environment. The same process will be used to re-create the entire game, including all continents and dungeons.
The only obstacle I've run into is the default Minecraft height limit. Many zones exceed 128 blocks, so I've needed to use mods to increase the height limit. Once I'm satisfied with the quality of the maps, they will most likely be hosted online. I've received a tentative offer from Cursecraft to host the world, which might be where it ends up.
You can follow along my progress on my thread at MMO-Champion, where I posted some work-in-progress screenshots and explained how I did the conversion. Let me know if you're happy with the results, and I will gladly post more screenshots and video as the project advances =D
wow thats nuts ... can anyone download this map when your done?
and would the Nether be the out lands if your planning to make both sides of the WoW world and the top being Lich king.

In all likelihood, Outland will be another area in the "open world", connected by a portal of course. It will also have no bedrock base, so you can fall off it and die just like in WoW. I might use the nether for dungeons.
Some nice preview shots of Outland will be coming soon. For now, here's something to .
This is just pure win. Some places look a bit dodgy, but I suppose it's impossible for the script to do everything awesomely.
Especially the world map is sexy as hell.
I'm actually looking to slightly improve the voxelization algorithm to deal with collisions between materials better. Of course, whatever isn't done perfectly by the algorithm can be polished later in-game.
I played World of Warcraft for 2 amazing years. Sadly i needed to quit because it got in the way of my real life. Now im a casual Minecraft player and have been waiting for a build like this, you are truly inspiring.
I get a nostalgic feeling from just looking at the images.

Thank you.
Well done to you!
This is beautiful
