This guy has perseverance but no one can gather that much obsidian... He needs literally thousands of blocks for the roof.
to do that, just go to the nether with a inventory full of empty buckets, and take what you please from the many oceans of lava, bring it back, convert it, and mine it... Although you need a diamond pick and each block takes 15 seconds :S

Or just place the water/lava exactly where you want it permanently, and combine. No mining required.
On a side note, how is the sheep breeding coming along? :biggrin.gif:
Damn. I cannot express my sense of "wow"-d-ness that I have going on. This is amazing, the planning, building, time taken- very, very, very impressed. A few million diamonds to you, Swervish. :biggrin.gif:
GREAT JOB! I would never be able to build something like that! That is amazing! Also love the way you showed how you are planning it all out and the fact that its not on creative mode!
Very nice project man. I hope you finish and I can't wait until you post more updates. I'm already getting ideas from how you used paint to plan your buildings.
Again, Thank You all for the kind words and encouragement.
Included in this update;
Gatehouse roofs and upper parapets/crenelations are on
Guard Tower is done (exterior)
Courtyard elevations are measured and placed
Inner courtyard wall is laid out
Lower Courtyard is started
Silence of the lambs
Layout; the cobblestone will support the interior structural mass and the block will be the floors of the rooms.
The structure and interior support of first phase going up:
Everything is in for the first phase, including temporary dirt window filler:
The cladding is on:
Second 'story':
Looking down at temp base at top of first floor
Third Story
third story crenelations
Notice the dirt scaffolding
the upper tower first floor
upper story second floor and the roof.... and DONE!
So pleased with the first section of the 'white' castle that I decided to invite a few of the locals over for a little dance party!
Courtyard elevations are measured and placed
At about halfway past the Guard tower the courtyard gains a 'story' (about 12 blocks higher than the lower courtyard). That is the reason that there are parts of the tower that are not clad in the all-important and too-valuable-to-waste white wool... those parts will eventually be under ground or the interior of another building.
And over on the other side the eventual height of teh inner courtyard wall... there will be a massive outdoor staircase here soon, but I need a x-y-z- placement marker here now to build the courtyard wall.
Sheep... freekin sheep. I can not express how much I already HATE the breeding/shearing part of this project. At this point, I will put my skills up against ANYONE who plays this game (legit) for a sheep breeding race, lol.
I will need appx 30,000 ttl sheep to shear (I think). But Ive realized that I dont need (or want) to have them all at once... Don't need because, they can breed every 5 minutes, and I cant feed more than about 1/second, so having more than 300 alive at anytime is 100% unnecessary until my height mod updates so that it is compatible with MC 1.1, and the sheep can regrow wool. Don't want, because, even though I have a blow torch of a game rig with a $400+ vid card and a bucket load of RAM, having 800+ sprites (my biggest herd size, before I culled) concentrated in one sheep pen lagged me out a little, and THAT is unacceptable.
For now, operations are to keep 300ish adults alive at any given time to breed a fresh 150ish kids, and cull the sheared excess adults. I have bred, sheared and killed around 4800 so far, mostly white but also had a 400ish run on dark greys.
For the record... I hate sheep so much that it is almost pleasant to run through my herd whacking them with a sword.
Sometime later, after I am convinced that I have exhausted all options and methods of breeding effeciency, I will throw a little 'high volume breeding' tutorial up here or maybe even start a new thread.... teaser: you need to spank each one of them right after they breed or their individual pathing code turns into a mass pathing NIGHTMARE.
Wow, that's a huge, huge huge HUGE!!! sheep farm. I'm still amazed that you're doing this legit. Some might say you have to much time on your hands, but those people probably like listening to friday and enjoy the taste of their own crap. I say you don't have enough time on your hands. Well done, I can't wait to see this finished.

"Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic."
I spent about two weeks on the abandoned project and Ive been on this one for almost four now.
I suspect that there is at least 2 months to go.

I tried it in black wool, but didn't like the look, so I switched up the sheep farming ops and bred Dark Grey wool sheep instead... a lot of them
Here's a look prior to the first shearing and culling;
The roofs:

More courtyard wall laid out, plus the gatehouse shed is on.

Lower Courtyard is started
I will need to cook a LOT more cobble into smooth stone to finish this and the upper courtyard... they are built of double stone slab.
