If you're starting over, i think you should close this thread and make a new one with a different title.
Upon further reflection, I think you're probably right.
I will most likely just pot-can this thread and start a new one when I restart the project.
Ive been in contact with the lego guy via email now, and I am in the process of purchasing the actual paper blueprints for the castle. I found it pretty easy to transpose them over to block plans.
Only draw back is their size means they cant be scanned, so Ill have to wait for snail-mail.

Ok boys and girls... BIG BIG BIG BIG PROBLEM...
Potentially, a project ending problem.
I cant build this in proportion with the 128 sky limit. It can not be done.
Been trying to lay out elevations... and im not a little too short, Im about 3/5 too short. I need appox 12 meter stories and I need 11-12 stories to make this look right. Where I am built right now, I only have 51 meters above foundation top before I hit the sky limit.
Bad Bad mojo.
I have two choices;
1) start over and lay foundations at the bottom of a MONSTER land well... the finished project will look like #@$&% Im sure, because the castle will be sitting in a tub.
2) PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE tell me there is a mod that will raise the upper sky limit about 100 blocks. I'll, by force, have to use one mod.
Please help.
Fishtaco's sky limit mod, a friend of mine is making a server with it. It works great
I was thinking, instead of using wool, you could use snow blocks. You can get snow really fast by putting a snow golem and yourself in a hole, and hitting the ground with a shovel repeatedly with a shovel. I'm not sure if this would actually be easier than using wool, the downsides would be that you degrade your shovel really quickly and it takes 4 snowballs to make a snow block. The upside would be that snow blocks (for some reason) aren't prone to fire like wool and it also might be faster than breeding sheep.
■"Ok guys, listen up. We're on a top secret mission to get coffee and donuts, problem is the Germans drank all the coffee and ate all the donuts, so now we gotta go kick their asses." Random CoD 3 phrase
can I also give you a big helping suggestion here: set up a skeleton spawner trap to collect bones whilst you are doing other things (away from minecraft), then grow the wheat with the bonemeal, its a huge help to me I never farm legit anymore.

I have this bookmarked as well. I have been looking for a castle myself to build in my world. But I have been looking at Le Chateau d'Usse. I am using a texture pack that the cobblestone is a plain white block...but the idea of using wool...I may look into that. I haven't fully settled on what castle i will build.
But you have given me a great deal to work towards as well!
Just after my last post in this thread, I contacted a lego master and purchased plans from him via the USPS for this castle built in legos. I will have to translate the plans to 1X1 blocks from all the various blocks available with legos, but at least I have a GREAT set of scaled, balanced, true perspective, and VERY detailed plans from which to extrapolate a minecraft version.
The plans arrived today, and here is a sample of what I have to work with:
And here is the translation to MC:
LOL, this project is not dead BY A LONG SHOT... it is born again HARD!
In the interim days that I have been waiting for the plans to arrive, I have not been idle either.
Upon discovering that limitations of my first attempt, I decided to completely abandon the first version of the project and start from scratch.
Setp one:
I researched and found a mod that has raised the sky for me. It took a he77 of a long time to figure out how to get the chunker to build a usable world, but I ended up with a world that is 1056 high, mountain tops at 256 max and sea lvl at 64. It looks VERY much like a normal world but the mountains are a little bit higher and they dont look completely wacked like the generator does with 512 high mountains.
Second problem was spawning with this mod. I decided that in keeping with the goal of only one mod, I didnt include MCedit, or what ever it is called to set my spawn point. Without that second mod, this mod auto spawns you at the top of the sky and you freefall to earth immediately. ... can you say SPLAT? Through trial and error I discovered that I could 'fly' about 10-12 blocks sideways on the way down, so I continually created new maps until I found one that spawned me close enough to deep ocean that I could 'fly' out to deep water on the way down, and.... GAME ON!
I have a world.
Now, this project on these plans (stories will be 12 blocks high each) is going to require about 13.77 metric snot-tons of mined/cut/grown resources, so I thought I might as well get started asap. I have been mining, harvesting, collecting stacks of wood, pork, saplings, iron, coal, sugar, wheat, cobble, sand, dirt, etc for about a week now.
Here are a few screen shots of the preparations:
I happened to land right next to a small island, and I figured... MY ISLAND!
I cut the trees for wood, started an underground lair for safety, and pretty quickly mowed all the land down to sea lvl. Then I surrounded the island with sand, and up fences all the way around on block in from the water. between the fence and the water I ringed the island all the way around with sugar cane(started with 4 and replanted harvests till it was ringed). I took adventures to other islands to forage for aspens, pines and oaks, and planted a starter tree nursery so that I will have handy wood to harvest for building and tools, and a nice supply of saplings for the final step of planting the slopes outside of the finished castle. Lastly I planted the first wheat field ( I will eventually plant a massive underground wheat farm similiar to the one from my first attempt.
Here is a pic with the tree farm started, and no real sugar operation yet:
Here's a pic of all of that from a little pillar:
My branch mine is a dead straight drop from my little underground hide out (which has a little skylight that you can see at the bottom of the above pic.... I always have the WORST luck with placement of my vertical shaft (I had to fight a HUGE lava pool down here on levels 3-7 right at the bottom of my drop shaft, but I like challenge):
This is only the top level (top lateral shafts are at lvls 17 and 18), its 20 branches per side and the branches are 40 blocks deep. This is the east main... there will be an equal west main as well. When done it will completely show me at least one surface of every block in a 18 X 86 X 160 cube (or 247,680 possible blocks for ores) and I will have mined out at least 57,600 blocks of cobble, dirt and gravel, all stored for for building.... yes, Im that ate up with the challenge of survival mode :smile.gif:
OK so, that's all for now.
This will be the second to last update for this thread. Next update will be a link to the new thread which I will start once I have the full plans done (probably take a week or more). I will also repeat most of this particular post as the starting of the project. See ya'll in a week or so, if I havent lost your interest already.
Nice to see you started the new project! Two questions though: Don't you have a huge amount of lag in the 1024 block high map? I recently saw a video review about a mod that rises the sky limit (by Antvenom - you can see the Youtube vid on his channel) and he said that he had a lot of lag, simply because the amount of blocks that need to be load is huge. And his computer could be a NASA computer, if you know what I mean.
Second question: Why don't you use a cobblestone generator? Is easy to build and produces an infinite amount of cobblestone. And the only thing you need is a bucket of lava and a bucket of water.
Anyways, good luck with your castle!
1) lag? Nope.. had a bit at 2048 so i backed it down... maybe the US is downsizing NASA for a reason? My comp is a freaking blowtorch though, truth be told. I payed one of my client's kids to build it for me last January... labor $100, parts $1670... quad core, dual vid cards, 8 gig ram (iirc), etc etc etc.
2) yep cobblestone generators are cool, but who needs on when I will be mining away tens of thousands of stone from the branch mines and the leveling of the plain for the base anyway? besides, only about 1/30th of the structure will be stone/cobble/block. Its mostly white wool, brick, sandstone exterior, and wood, sandstone, colored wool interior. And bottom line... its minecraft, not generator craft. Im not looking for shortcuts.
and thanks for the good luck wishes. Im going to need it.
LOL I lied.
I threw another update in on this thread...
Im trying to get all the pre-work done so that the new thread will start with a meaningful post, dozens of pics, a good look at the mining, the farming, the MS-paint plans, the 'flagged' or marked out footprint and the build-up take down of the flat space to build, etc.
The reason for this quick note? ... LOL (again) Ive done some math from the plans, and taken a couple long tours around my start spot and found a major challenge, LOL yet again.
I'll let the picture speak for itself
lost my full maps in a sleeping accident (woke up in a wall... bad code)
Pro-Tip for those that dont see the trouble right off... I cant find a even-semi-flat spot big enough to build on. Not even CLOSE! So fair warning... i will likely be digging and leveling for a LONG time before I start building. The number of hours it will take to clear/level ANY spot Ive seen so far will be SO HUGE (prob 200+) that I will be investing in some traveling gear, and going a couple maps out in every direction in search of flatter spot.
Please be patient... I'll begin the new thread as soon as possible
EDIT:
PS, here's a little teaser... a couple full scale shots of the small tower (all dirt mock up) to the side of the gate house:
