Currently there's no time frame, but its been in testing for about a week, so i think it should be soon. If you want you can use the prerelease, the main drawback being that there are probably a bunch of bugs and minecraft will crash a lot. By the time you get to the point where you actually need the wool, the update will probably have come out. Also, since sheep regrow their wool in the prerelease, sheep will only drop 1-3 wool instead of 2-4.
WOW.. I am amazed, even if this was done in creative, I would have been in awe. You're doing a great job, keep it up. BTW, where do you manage to find all that coal? and even if you made charcoal, how do you get that many trees? And the stone? I suppose you do a lot of mining. Or do you have a cobblestone generator?

I dont find trees. I farm them.

Spent a couple hours starting my branch mines at bedrock depth... couldnt have picked a tougher place to drop my vertical shaft, but I am stubborn on theme things and I want my shaft direcly under th emain castle tower, so I hammered my way through. X/ I hit four caverns and lava once. Died a lot on the way down and sealing up the shaft from the caverns, but it is done and safe now... Will work my branches from bedrock up to lvl 17. Had plenty of luck finding diamonds( 10 in 90 min today) though they wont be very necessary in this build. Main reason to go deep was for the redstone... needed compass and map for clay mining travels. Gonna have to take a few overnight treks to gather enough clay to cook it for the bricks to build the gatehouse... only sitting on 6 stacks of brick after 2 hours of running shore line;
Though I did gather about a dozen stacks of sand from beaches... wont have to seek out a desert after all.
Ok boys and girls... BIG BIG BIG BIG PROBLEM...
Potentially, a project ending problem.
I cant build this in proportion with the 128 sky limit. It can not be done.
Been trying to lay out elevations... and im not a little too short, Im about 3/5 too short. I need appox 12 meter stories and I need 11-12 stories to make this look right. Where I am built right now, I only have 51 meters above foundation top before I hit the sky limit.
Bad Bad mojo.
I have two choices;
1) start over and lay foundations at the bottom of a MONSTER land well... the finished project will look like #@$&% Im sure, because the castle will be sitting in a tub.
2) PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE tell me there is a mod that will raise the upper sky limit about 100 blocks. I'll, by force, have to use one mod.
I haven't used his mod and am not sure if it works on previously generated maps. Wost case scenario you could make a new map and use mcedit to copy all your progress so far into a new map. If you don't want to use mcedit then you'll have to start from scratch. Sorry for the rough news.
I'm running into the same problem with my design for Biltmore Estate. I need to go at least to a 200 block height to make the building liveable. I haven't tried Dynamic Heights yet, posted in the post above, but it's the only height mod I've found.
EPIC FAIL! sorry, but it had to be said. Anyway, there are quite a few mods that raise your height limit, as many people have run into similar problems. Among them are Cubic Chunks, Dynamic height mod, and Fishtaco's height mod. I personally wouldn't care if you use a mod that allows you to make the castle bigger. :tongue.gif:
Look, nobody cares if you use a mod that makes the build POSSIBLE if it still means you have to get all the resources yourself. Get one of these mods, we need you too!
I agree, as far as it goes that mod will not make it easier to build( actually more difficult). Go for it and dont feel bad, it is still legit as far as i can see.
Wow, you clearly love sheep. Almost all your posts here are about them :tongue.gif:
Ha ha ha ha....... no its not that i love them, its that i sit with the same problem that he does. We both build big in survival and both needs tons of wool for our projects. :laugh.gif:

Completely agree. It stands at an EPIC FAIL right at this moment.
But Im not the kind of guy to just give up, so if I can find a mod that will raise the sky enough... GAME ON!
Thanks for the leads on mods.
OK, so at first cursory glance, it appears that the height mods available cant be just dropped into an existing map. Looks like Im going to have to start over and use the mod at world creation to raise the ceiling then. Doesnt bother me ONE BIT. This has been a blast so far and Its not like Im close to the finish line anyway. Heckfiire, Im probably not even at the 15% mark. I don't mind redoing the beginning in the least. Besides, there are a couple small changes I would like to make to the design anyway.
So, I'm starting from scratch!
Ill be spending at least tonight, and maybe tomorrow on re-design, then I'll grab/install one of those mods and update the thread with the new restart.
I think I'll keep the same thread going, to more accurately show the Project, not just the structure, and to hopefully encourage some readers to 'not give up when you hit a wall'.
Further research has turned up a glimmer of hope.
I believe I have found a source of plans that was used to build this structure with legos.
If I can get my hands on these plans, I can get the proportions to look VERY nice..... and i have verified that my assumptions are correct, I will need to use 12 block tall stories to make it look anywhere near right.
Here is a quick mock up of the front of the gatehouse, that I transposed from the only lego plan that is easily obtainable.
I hope I can acquire the rest quickly, but if not I can still use the excellent picture catalog that the lego guy took of the finished structure. Big win today to offset yesterday's defeat.
Im back in the game baby :wink.gif:
OH! PS.... check out the width on the entire gatehouse structure... 103 blocks... the etire width of the Castle including the courtyards is about 20% added to the gatehouse, that means the ttl width would be about 120... appx 50% LARGER than my original plans ....looks like Im going to be building a little bigger than I thought!!
One thing is for sure... I am DEFINITELY re-inspired!
Excellent! Glad to hear! Using a height mod doesn't hurt the integrity of your project at all. It is a shame that you can't just drop it into a world, but hey.. that's life and you've chosen to do this sans all mods, save the height mod.
Now just to convince myself to try doing the same with my Biltmore Estate Project. I'm so use to using mods.. but.. You're inspiring. >D At least that would be mostly sandstone and stone bricks..not wool. ^^
8,000! Wow! Better start saving iron up for shears.

I'm watching this until completion. This is looking like it's gonna be awesome.

I have not tried the new snapshot, but that is pretty amazing for only 9 sheep!

I tested the new snapshot for this week
9 sheep
227 wool

pretty much the same. I hope they don't nerf the mechanics before the official release.
