I've done the math for you and assuming you only use the wool to coat the outside of the castle, you will end up needing on the order of 20,000 blocks of wool. Do some more math and that means you will have to shear 6666 sheep. Thus you will need 13332 wheat to breed all the sheep. This also means that you will go through 28 shears, requiring 56 iron ingots.
...So yeah, I'll agree with your nagging voice.
Thats awesome, thanks. that is about where I figured that math would come out... Not a project stopper in the least; Epic completion requires Epic hardship.
Let me drop a bombshell for you that'll make this whole thing so much easier for you:
Breeding two dyed sheep will produce a baby sheep with the same color. Shorn sheep will continue to produce baby sheep in the their original color. This can be used to obtain large quantities of colored wool, rather than relying on the rare dyes, such as Cocoa Beans or Lapis Lazuli.
Straight out of the Minecraft Wiki.
What you really have to worry about now is the setup of your sheep pens :wink.gif:
Nice project to work on by the way, also dig the legit style. Can't stand the thought of building things outside of Survival Mode myself.
Ima hafta re-read the wiki then. As I read it the baby sheep would randomly inherit the *Origional* color of one of the parents wether they had been shorn or dyed has no efect on the babys spawn color.
I'll re-read it FOR SURE before I start breeding squids. Thanks for the heads up.
Keep up the amazing work. This is the most ambitious project I have ever seen on Minecraft, and I'm sure you are mad at attempting it. However, I value madness and if you ever get tired of the project, just remember the support behind you from the Minecraft community, who really don't care if you are mad or not xD
Oh yeah and I love ^his^ name! Not like it is like mine or anything...:3
Hummmmm maddness.... yeah Id say that covers it pretty nicely :smile.gif:

RIGHT ON!
I did go re-read the wiki. Dye color does in fact pass through to the baby. That is going to simplify the grey roofs.
Thanks for the heads up guys.
Have you tried going out into "the wild" with shears and look for sheep to shear? I collected 700 pieces of wool in one go. 4 minecraft days. It helps releave the boredom of feeding and waiting. :cool.gif:
This is amazing. :biggrin.gif: I can't wait to follow your progress and I think I shall attempt to build my own. I've always loved this castle and to live in it.. oh that would be epic!
This project made me finally register for this forum. I love it! Neuschwanstein has been my favorite castle for years and I was able to visit it about a year ago. Make sure you leave room for Hohenschwangau!
I will have to dig around and see what pictures I have that could help you with the project. They were pretty strict about no interior pictures though.
Also, the castle was never finished. There was a very tall keep that they planned to build, but was never completed. It might be a cool addition to add as well. I believe the foundation to the keep is shown in the first picture you posted as the white stones in the courtyard.
I hope when you finish you offer a map download. Despite the overuse of "Epic", this build really is Epic!

Thank you for the kind words. I do have some interior pics I think, in my research folder somewhere.

Please keep us updated. Thank you!
Look for an update tonight, I am almost done with the dig out and the courtyards.
Keep up the good work! I can hardly believe you're being so successful in survival mode with monsters on. It's very inspirational, despite my hatred of monsters.

SPAAAAAAAAAAAACE!

Hours worked ~50
Mob deaths ~75
Sheep herd... not really sure, I dont think my $350 vid card wants to draw them all at the same time :/ Math says it should be about 700 or so but it doesn't look like it in a screen shot.
First shot:
All the interior dig out is done on the basements and foundations... all cellars are at least 4 meters deep, some as deep as six meters. The exterior dig out is about 80% done. AND! the courtyard is DONE!.. that was a LOT of smooth stone!
_____________________________________
I jump/built some pillars to try to get that whole structure in one pic... cant do it, sorry. Here is a shot looking directly west or taken from the big building end; the opposite end from the red gatehouse.
_____________________________________
Another pair of shots from a pillar on the south side, an angle I havent shot from before.... Just simply cant get the whole thing in one shot :sad.gif:... I'll figure out how eventually.

Did I mention that it took a LOT of smooth stone to lay the upper and lower courtyards? LOL
the furnaces in the masons house have all been burning for a lot of game days.

And the best shot I have so far of the sheep herd... One day soon Ill need to build a half dozen more fenced pastures, and designate one for the dark grey sheep... I pretty much hate sheep already. Notch made them appropriately stupid 8/ ... I may have to build a catwalk above the pens so I can feed them without being bulldozed by the herd, lol.

Soooo, thats it for now.
Next phase is the gate house and first step in that phase is gather clay to make bricks and sand to make glass. I also need to replant my forest in a more managed pattern so I can harvest it more efficiently.
I also need to invent/discover a functional scaffolding system so I can get on and off the structure more quickly a couple thousand times. Seems like Im constantly running to my bed to reset the sun.
That is alot of sheep, have you thought of the amount carbon emmisions they produce?
Anyway great job.Its amazing. You could have filled the walls with dirt and when youre done can you put up a download link so i can play the ivasion mod with it :smile.gif:
Loking at you recent pic i can see why you have so many deaths...... Add candels over the part of the castle your building. You can move them as you go on, it will also help you waisting time running for cover as well as make small places to sleep all over to get to cover faster when the sun go down. I had 4 in my current build, you can take them down as it gets safer. Dirt and gravel is the best scaffolding as it is dispensable.
Have you thought about shearing a bunch of the sheep now and then killing a bunch to thin the heard out? It should help reduce lag and make feeding easier.
That is what I do currently with my farms. I'll get a bunch of sheep packed in there, then shear them, breed them, then slaughter a bunch.

Good idea, that is what Im planning too. But Im needing about 8000 sheep total, it is important to keep the breeding pops high to accomplish this.
FANTASTIC!
Any prediction on when it will officially update?
Im conflicted about using a pre-release. I promised myself I would do this with official released code, no skins, no mods etc... pre-release is kind of a grey area on that goal.

A ton of cobblestone, and that's just the footings and stuff.
lol.
I'll be simply amazed if you finish the whole thing.
Good luck!

Stop breeding.... l ook at front page!!!
Wool regrowth actually isn't implemented yet, unless you get the newest prerelease. Soon, though, I think minecraft will update officially.
