Really? Its not done. Ok, working on that. I actually thought about dumping this world until I found blazes yesterday. Still no skeleton dungeon yet. The house isn't very "ranchy" but the large deck is cool. Planned: small dock by house, cottage and large dock by eastern sea. Nether portal is pretty new and not much there. Oh, I think the hogs are no longer escaping.
A couple requests and an update.
1. Found a scary ravine not too far from the backyard. The "roof" is sandstone and I bet in some places just sand.
Any advice on making it safe to prevent a cave in?
2. Need tips on shaping/manicuring the big oak trees.
New:
Skelly dungeon with drowning trap. Yea! Rail from house deck leads to a ladder. If you get a chance check it out.
I've spent a good amount of time experimenting. On average it yields ~80 arrows every 10 minutes.
Nether access housing.
Pier and dock connecting to south sea.
Fishing hole nearby with a shack for rain protection.
Sheep & cow barn is now just sheep.
Bridge over the river. Difficulty balancing asthetics & safety from boat suffocation. Advise using boat thru the middle.
Large cattle corral across the river.
Set out looking for a wild brown sheep. I found something as good or better. Wolves!
Carefully winding my way home trying to avoid pitfalls and caves when a lightning storm began. We decided to press on thru a thick forest hoping that would cover. As we neared home I realized we needed quick protection from the elements. The mushroom cave! Of course. There's a natural cave under the house. We darted in and arrived safely. Guess that zombie meat was worth saving.
Maybe if I had went hunting for wolves I would have found a brown sheep. =P
Well, they can't stay in that damp cave, they'll need a home a too.
Constructed a scarecrow I'm pretty happy with now. If you want to make one a pic should be self-explanatory.
(edit: There is a trapdoor on the back of the yellow wool as well.)
Planned in no particular order: Better enchantment shrine, find slimes, blaze trap, tree shaping/arranging, farm-like-house, dock & safe house towards northern sea, mob grinder for supplies
Note: Map ramdonly generated in prerelease 3. Most of map 4 to the north generated in prerelease 4.
In the words of someone else, this was an ass to fix. Every cobble has sand above it. Loaded a backup after a few minutes since water drops source blocks in Pre5. Since adjacent sand blocks drop when disturbed, I had to place the cobble a block below the sand. Then I could place a block directly on the last adjacent sand. Single sand blocks were no problem. Used gravel to pillar up over and over. A big help: left 1 gravel on the floor so I knew where I pillar'd up before. It looks perfectly natural top-side. Other than that I've been trying out mob traps.
