I agree. I'd honestly rather use up the 3 iron for a bucket, or cobblestone for stairs than go up my elevator, through my base, up another elevetor (Or flight of stairs,) to my chest then back.
Pumkins aren't in the game yet, so I don't see how I can make a pumpkin farm? I need to test pumpkins a little rather than just assume how they work and build a farm for them. Sure, the farm may work, but it could have serious efficiency problems. It's like me making an endermen seperator right now-- There's no point when I don't know how they behave (Other than trying to kill you for looking at them and teleporting)

Sorry, bad choice of words on my part =P They're in, but farming isn't, making a pumpkin farm useless.
You seperate them using a passive mob seperator. You use their behavior and sizes to seperate them from the others. I really don't want to explain it, since I'd probably just end up confusing you more, but Docm77 has a very good video about it.
This has been a huge inspiration for me, as a fellow legit builder. I love your ideas and archatectual skill. To tell you the truth, I didn't think the great hall was going to look that great at first, but it really came together and developed into overwelming awesome.
I would give you diamonds, but it would take too long to give you the amount you deserve.

The first stuff I put up was the VERY start of the great hall =P It was it during construction-- not anywhere near finished.
The way I build is simple-- The only plan I have is a vague one in my head. The 'great hall' was originally just meant to be a big hall area, not really a new base. The only idea of the look I had was that it would have an upper walkway surrounding an open room. I also knew that I wanted a nice staircase at one side.
As I build further and further into a project, I change my mind OFTEN. This leads to many wasted resources and frustrating moments. ("Dammit! I dug out the wrong place.") However, it lets me build exactly what I want. I don't feel trapped to any original idea.
I keep changing everything I think is wrong. An example of this from the great hall-- The pillars and arches weren't orginally gonna be there, but I thought the room needed 'support.'
This is all detailed throughout the thread with pictures and stuff. Never assume anything will be the same when it's finished. Wait until you see the elevator room pictures I have (It's now done, I just need to make the new thread...)

I do still read and reply to this thread. I am currently trying out the 1.8 update and it changes quite a bit. I don't want to build anything that I'll have to change soon, so I'm waiting for a stable version of 1.8 to come out.
At the moment I'm messing around in a new temporary world trying out the update =P I have a few tests going, but I've barely playing the game so I haven't made anything yet. I'm about to test out pumpkins and melon farm ideas, but I doubt there's much to do with them.
