mint house, though the stone doesnt appeal to me that well. good work on the diamond lining of the pool, it makes it glow almost.
Yeah. That's the one thing that bugs me a bit. I'd make the whole thing out of white wool but I'm concerned lightning will hit it and burn it down. Wish we could use dye as paint!

Decided to do something about it. Replaced all the walls in the house with clay, while leaving the floors stone. Actually looks tons better.
Clay was the lightest color non-flammable block in the game that looks seamless. Iron is white but it has a bordered look that doesn't work so well, plus i'm using it for doors.
I'll post in my next update. Thanks for the feedback! Looks better =)
I just finished the rooms and structure for a replica of "Villa Savoye" by Le Corbusier. Should have the furnishings and details done in a few days and will post =)
My house is now made of clay which ended up being the lightest non-flammable material to make modern walls out of. I also added the Villa Savoye by Le Courbousier, Circa 1932, in addition to the Farnsworth house by Mies Van Der Rohe, Circa 1951.
I tried to be very faithful to the plans of both houses putting rooms where they go etc. Was tricky for the Villa Savoye which is about 80% correct. It's tricky to rebuild a masterpeice that used thin glass walls with 1 meter square blocks, but fun! I tried to capture the spirit of the homes and took a few liberties where necessary while doing everything I could to match the real thing.
No texture pack is needed. This uses the defaults still.
Again, very good work! I've added a link to this thread in my sig (with your credit of course) to point people to a great example of thoughtful lighting techniques.

Former admin for the one and only VoxelBox, still looking for where I put that chest, forever punching wood.

Thanks Gecko. I'm flattered. I'm going to keep at it until this map is filled with a huge array of masterwork replicas by the great architects of the 1900s.
Next up is Frank Lloyd Wright's Falling water
Should be fun as it will need to be surrounded by trees and foliage which definitely gives some great opportunities for dramatic lighting. My favorite trick at the moment is to hide a few lights inside of nearby trees so that the tree itself becomes a light source. This should work well for the falling water house.
Also should be a challenge as I'll need to work on more of a mountain like surface as I want to recreate the river and surrounding landscaping so it feels natural.
I've seen that a few others have tried it with varying success. I'm going for broke on this one ;-)
Man you aren't kidding there. Frank Gehry would hate Minecraft. He's addicted to the curves.
I'd love to see the contractor's face the first time he gets the plans for a Gehry building.
I'm thinking the contractor would probably wet himself, then faint :biggrin.gif: Yeah, I think it would be near impossible to do a building of his. I cant wait for falling water, i love the interior, if you could mimic the "coziness", that would be amazing. :biggrin.gif:

There is an amazing 3D animation of the construction of this house (more like a forming than a construction, hard to explain) I'll see if I can find it.
Question is who is willing to take up the task? I would but my modding skills are probably as crippled as a turtle covered in honey and duct-tape on an interstate highway.
This is awesome. Thank you so much! It's very helpful for me when building the house to see some of these angles and cross sections that are hard to find online.
You rock!

Yeah np! I thought it was really cool when I saw it, glad to know it actually helps! Can't wait to see it finished! Easily one of my favorite works of architecture.

So far I've finished the primary house structure, the bridge, the carport, about half of the river, and maybe 80% of the lighting.
I still have a ton to go and will need to use MCEdit to create a mountain behind the building that can hold the guest house and pool. The interior structure worked out really well and I can't wait to start decorating it. I'll strive to give it that cozy look that ferrari1024 mentioned. :-)
I'll upload the file so folks can check it out when it's finished. I figure I have a good week of work left.
It's really cool when now and then I'll have a moment of epiphany when I realize what Frank Lloyd wright was thinking in terms of flow and how it fits together with the foundation elements. Those moments really help as when you're working in Minecraft I can't be dead accurate. I really have to try to get at the spirit of what the architect was trying to accomplish. I have to say doing this is giving me a greater appreciation for how good these architects really were. This house in particular is a puzzlepeice of ingenuity on frank's part.
Here's a photo for reference:

Lots of tweaking and work to go. Man that waterfall was a major PITA.

EDIT: It might be very tough to do in minecraft, but if you want modern, try frank Gehry: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frank_Gehry
