This is my fist time posting but I've been a long time lurker.
I've been working on this project for quite some time now, about 2 months. I used a map I found online as a guideline but most of it I have made up myself. I started out all legit but after realizing how large it really was in game I needed some help. I've used MCEdit for terraforming the island and the surrounding lands. I recently moved the project to a new map to take advantage of biomes and the new trees and ores. Every block has been placed by hand. After harvesting some 10,000+ wool I decided to build the tower with cobblestone and transform them into wool. The iron block flooring was obviously transformed from cobble as well. Mining was just taking too long so I had to abandon my all legit tactic.
The island is approximately 900x350 at its widest.
The tower 92 high and 77 wide and 56 deep. That's not including the basement which is still being worked on. I had to lower the entire map 28 meters in order to make the tower the height I wanted.
The bridges cut off abruptly because I havent imported the ends of them of yet because I have to terraform the land first.
I've been low on motivation lately so I was hoping to get some inspiration for my fellow Minecrafters.
Anyways, enough chatter here are some pics...
Cartograph of the island
Approach to the tower through the part of the city I've built
Closer...
Entrance to the courtyard
Looking up at the tower from the courtyard
Here it is lit up at night
Inside the front door
Blue Ajah floor. (There is an identical floor for all 7 ajahs total, plus 2 floors for guests, and 2 floors for other things)
The Amerilyn's floor (entire top level)
Looking out from the balcony on the Amerilyn's floor
Backside of the tower and the library
An angled view of the library and tower
And finally the Ogier grove. Eventually I'll chop down some of the trees and create paths with flowers and of course the Way Gate.
Pretty impressive. When I first saw the thread I was rather excited, and as I was clicking I was starting to wonder how you could recreate Tar Valon in a cube-world. Luckily I wasn't disappointed. Great work.
Very well done! You've really brought it to life and your sense of style and vision is very good.
Don't feel bad about using MCedit, that is way too much work to do legit by yourself.
Can't wait for the last few books to wrap up the story that has taken so long to be written. Jordan's storytelling and broad cast of characters was amazing.
Just a suggestion, but since you're using an editor program, I would probably construct a tileable section of housing and just replicate it all over to fill the general city area. Don't make it square, but a sort of pinwheel shape that can be turned and still interlock with other copies. Demolish any buildings that are placed on the main thoroughfares using this method, then you can focus on just the important standout buildings, like shops along the thoroughfares, Inns/taverns, large homes of the wealthy, etc.
I'm reading Crossroads of Twilight right now! Holy ****! NERDGASM^10! Excuse me while I stare at your creation and picture Minecraft people beseiging it.
I'm in no position to tell you what to do, but I wouldn't recommend repeating patterns except for commoners' places. Tar Valon is known for the greatest architecture between the Spine of the World and the ocean.
Too bad you hacked to make it otherwise I woulda said goods job
I am so tired of this.
On a positive note, great job, OP! I don't get the reference, but it's a damn good... thing... anyway!
It's from the Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan. If you're into fantasy books then highly recommend this series. This series has taken over 10 years to be written and still a final book to be published! The author himself died about 3 years ago from heart disease. Here's a link to a pretty good fan wiki (click the 'show' link by navigation to make it show the list of books instead of the feature article) http://wot.wikia.com/wiki/A_beginning

It would be Mega Greifed
And that would be awesome :biggrin.gif:
That's my favorite book series!

I tried it with terrible results. I gave my wife my glasses for a second, a creeper showed up and now my wife is pregnant.
Stupid 3D..
