I really like this thread, I wish more people would post on it.
So do I, and luckily I just finished my first mega build. I've had the game for about a month now and I've been playing it more often during the past two weeks. I started with an ugly tower and floating island base, then made a nice looking tower, but when I wanted to build a portal to the Nether, I built something with almost all of the cobblestone I had.
And at sunset.
I'm probably going to adjust the portal's location just a bit since it is a bit off-center. Also, here's some slightly outdated pics from the ground.
I actually didn't update my game because of this project, since I didn't want to revert back to the default cobblestone mid-construction. The original idea was to have two spiral towers and a torch on top, but then I decided to add snake heads with lightstone eyes. This was done without the aid of any outside programs.
Wow.. after seeing some of these im worried mine wont be epic enough
Going for a Egyptian Look.... doing sloping walls.. and good colums... is a damn pain
I actually viewed the image prior to reading your comments thought that it looked very Egyptian-looking. I think you succeeded. lol I like the stairs at the bottom of the columns. It makes me wish stairs came in several building materials. It is epic in its own right.

This is my first attempt at a pirate ship.
The sails look fine to me. They are meant to look tied up while it is at the dock, right? Most people have the sails full open and it looks cool if it is on the water, but it unrealistic when they are sitting at the dock. I love a good pirate ship.

*posts EPIC snakes statue thing*
THAT is awesome! I know how hard it is to make spirals and ones of that size must have been quite a chore!
-------------------------------------------
Here's my latest creation, "Saw Tooth Castle". It is 98% built by hand. The last 2% was me using MCEdit to correct a gross error. I built two of the turrets off center by one block. Even then, there was a couple more errors, so it isn't 100% symmetrical, but it is very close. Oh, and I used MCEdit to place mob spawners inside. I filled it with treasure, before that of course.
I think I've nearly used all the coal on this island now for glass and smoothstone.
Well I think this is epic, but for a different reason entirely.
lol, graveyards are pretty cool. I have one that I've been filling in with graves since I started playing. One grave per in-game death. I'm up to 84 graves now. It's a real project trying to expand it. I have surface graves like those you shown and a massive catacombs area with dry catacombs and wet catacombs that are in an underground lake accessed only via boat. I used different flowers and torches to symbolize the type of death for the above ground cemetery and signs telling how I died for the catacombs.
In celebration of 100 deaths I'm building a cathedral. I have the vaulted ceilings, pews, alter, pulpit, nearly done. It has an underground marina in a cave system that exits to the sea.
Here's a collage of pics of the Cemetery, Catacombs, and Crypts.

This would look so much more epic with the betterlight mob O_o

Thanks! To be honest, I didn't find making the spiral that difficult. Once I found a guide to making circles, I made a plan using one large circle with the center of the smaller circles on opposite sides. I then moved each circle counterclockwise around the large circle with each layer I went up. It's hard to explain, but I didn't find it too difficult. The snake heads were kind of planned out, but a lot of guesswork was involved in making them look good.

Looks like a DNA-spiral
First of all, Did you really need to quote a large post with many screenshots just to say that? Also, the shape is a double helix, also the shape of DNA.

I don't want to touch mods, I'm afraid I'll mess up my game.

Jah, I can never install them because I'm extremely technology impaired. You can always back up your saves though, and the betterlight mod doesn't seem that hard to install on windows.
But anyways, I kinda sat staring at your structure for like five minutes, it's so epic.

Also, @Deiscorides: You have the Minecraftian Midas Touch. Every single one of your creations is awe-inspiring and fantastic, especially the world tree. I would join the clamor of voices asking for a save, but I've already read your stance on that and will respect it.
Use [img] instead. It will create a smaller image to fit the forum and link it to the larger sized.
Yes. that is epic. I'm jealous. I humbly request in-game pics if you would.

Minecraftian Midas Touch
Thanks. I'm currently working on making underground lakes and rivers for white water rapid boating trips. I can't exactly post pics because they travel for quite a long ways; I may try to post some Cartograph pics of them though.
>your pic
What in the world? Was there a nuclear explosion? lol
pritty amature to all of the other stuff posted hear, but i was proud of it when it was fineshed
Didn't see this before right now. Looks like a gladiator Colosseum. I could see putting a mob spawner in there with MCEdit and having epic night time battles. It would be great for SMP!

I feel ashamed of my harbor after seeing shockwave's.
here is is anyway >.<
Looks pretty good to me. I don't even have a harbor yet. I'd planned one, but right now I'm only using a wee tiny boat dock.
I think most people feel overwhelmed and inadequate when seeing other people's works. Yet, what they have made usually pretty good in its own right. People are always too critical of their own work to really appreciate how good it really is.
F***! I need to take a day off from work and finished Flat Beaver mansion. It doesn't look beast like these things, but it's still good looking, and functional as a base.
Someone wanted to see more images of my forest and current side project. This is just some screenshots around a stone circle I made. It isn't a stonehenge replica, but it is similar. I had a lot of creepers pouring out of the woods while building it and while taking pics. I had more than one hole to fill in. lol

Welp, just a bit of aesthetically pleasing castle and lighthouse sunset view.
The castle is in mid construction, and the lighthouse you've seen before.

I'm working on a lighthouse myself at the moment and it's good to see what ohers have done. Maybe I'll post a pic here when I'm done.
Please, please share your technique.
Read through my posts in both threads in my signature. There's not much more to explain.
Please do.
It looks best at night.
Wow, that is great. That must have taken forever!
It makes for a good bump regardless.
