Hi, I'm new to the forums. My brother is addicted to minecraft and I've decided to make a belated birthday gift for him - a real life minecraft set. To accomplish these ends, I've decided not to buy a overpriced LEGO set, but to make my own. I plan on making all (or at least MOST) of the blocks in the game. Here are my questions before I start:
Blocks: How many foam blocks should I buy? I can buy either .75in or 1in foam cubes, how many blocks would constitute a 'usable' set? I am thinking roughly 150-200 cubes should be enough for blocks, or am I mistaken? I would like for the entire set of blocks to fit neatly into a shoebox, roughly.
Designs: I plan on printing out the design and gluing the cutouts onto each block after resizing. How heavy should the paper be? Cardstock, etc.? I will most likely be printing them at a print shop, not at home. I do have access to and know how to photoshop, so resizing and maximizing the paper should not be a problem.
Etc: What glue is best for paper to foam? I am thinking of using rubber cement. Also, what's the best method to "connect" the blocks? I was thinking of simple velcro stickers, for ease of attachment, on all six sides of most blocks, but perhaps leaving a number of them blank for the display or cross-sectional effect.
Thoughts? The most immediate question I have would probably be the number of blocks needed, so if you could answer that first, that would be great.
