I make boxart's too, and In my opinion, this box is at best mediocre.
I'll start at the front. It's just an image with a logo (with a glowing effect), some text and an ESRB rating slapped on. You need to put renders on the front, otherwist it just looks simple and not well done. That Mojang Specifications logo on the top right should be on the bottom left. Also, E 10+? I once saw a 3 year old playing minecraft on reddit. 10 years is too much. Also, you need publishers. You forgot the NTSC on the top right corner (f you used PEGI ratings, you would use PAL)
Now, onto the back. You need a catchy headline on the back about the game, like on Halo (can't remember which one), it has Finish the Fight. Yellow is not the color for back text. Sometimes, if you do it wrong, the box could look like a clown's makeup. The images are tiny, hard to see and some are irrelevant. Mabye a picture with a sculpture or something on it would make sense for a building game, and say something like "Build fantastic sculptures with a wide range of materials!". The skins you picked are unoriginal, and... they look like clowns makeup XD. The bottom bit needs to be official with all that mumbo jumbo saying not for rental and don't copy and computer requirements. Credits go in game, and don't write what platforms they are on in big letters like this. You also need an age rating and a developer and publisher logo.
Lastly, you need a couple of logos on the bottom of the side.
What? This guy made something awesome you can just put him down because you think yours is better. The only thing that makes something 'good' is by how people as a whole value it. And quite frankly, what you said was just rude.

I hadn't made my boxart yet. I was just giving some constructive critism. It may be "awesome" for someone who doesn't know that much about boxarting, but I gave my honest opinion. I was helping him on how he can improve him next time, not to "put them down". I tried my best to not be rude. I never said "This sucks". I said "It's mediocre". Rude? Your theory on how something is good is ..well...not true. It's the quality. What you describes is improving, which is an achivement. Sonethnig good is a good quality image (don't make any resolution jokes). Something that took time to make. And work.
Yes, you did say that. Not "this sucks" (I dont believe I put that in my post at all) heres proof:
And yes, I am correct in saying something good is defined is how people feel about it. Video games aren't good because they make nice drink coasters.
And the whole thing about putting YOUR boxart up in the same thread after saying essentially that yours is better? And you just commented on his boxart as crap, not looking as the positives? THATS rude.
Also, I found your boxart to be entirely too contrived.
Good day!
Thanks to Roadfox for getting up a tangible picture of the box art! As for the argument between you two, I am in support of Gamelag. Please enjoy this carefully structured counter derailing most of your argument, Technological.
I make boxart's too, and In my opinion, this box is at best mediocre.
America has most always been satisfied with the mediocre. To elaborate, have you ever heard of The Jersey Shore? That show is utter crap, but look at how much money they're raking in.

Alright, three demerits here. The first is that the term "image" is synonymous with "render". In fact, my entire cover is classified as a render by any GPU interpretation. Please get your vocabulary straight.
Secondly, I would absolutely love for you to point out any cover that is not "an image with a logo, some text, and an ESRB rating."
To end, you've just associated simple with not being well done; you act like the two come hand in hand. In this instance, I would like to cite Minecraft itself. Minecraft is such an insanely simple concept that is highly respected by the community and "well done" in relation to its power. In relation to the cover, Minecraft is an Indie game that does not follow the norm for most mainstream games. Minecraft doesn't need any hot-shot corporation to introduce the god-forsaken particle effects, or worse, the lens flare.
Also, E 10+? I once saw a 3 year old playing minecraft on reddit. 10 years is too much.
So, going by your logic, we should make Grand Theft Auto rated Everyone because one prepubescent 8 year old is capable of playing it. Game ratings are based on content, not the learning curve.
You forgot the NTSC on the top right corner (f you used PEGI ratings, you would use PAL)
Did I? It seems to me you did the same.
You need a catchy headline on the back about the game
"Occam's Razor at its finest." Even if it isn't on the back, it's still a permissible headline.
Yellow is not the color for back text. Sometimes, if you do it wrong, the box could look like a clown's makeup.
If you were so interested in printing capabilities, you would've at least done your cover in CMYK(which you obviously didn't).
The skins you picked are unoriginal
Unless you have all of those exact skin files, they're more original than what you deemed necessary for your own creative purposes.
The bottom bit needs to be official with all that mumbo jumbo saying not for rental and don't copy and computer requirements. Credits go in game, and don't write what platforms they are on in big letters like this. You also need an age rating and a developer and publisher logo.
If you would've had the tenacity to read the first sentence of my post, the world would be a better place.
It may be "awesome" for someone who doesn't know that much about boxarting, but I gave my honest opinion.
In the end, it doesn't matter what specialists think of your material. Rather, it's what the consumer thinks. So long as the consumer thinks it's "awesome," it's beneficial.
Synopsis
Sure, there are a few points you raise that are reasonable( e.g. more relevant pictures), however my main issue here is the way you wrote it. As was said in the post before me, it was obviously contrived and meticulously thought out. You make it seem like that entire post was simply to bash on my creativity and raise your self-esteem by thinking you are better than me. The main problem here is disrespect, and it's clear that it was intended.
I'm confused. When a sentence lacks a subject, the assumed subject is you. So are you saying that I fornicate with every other man you are addressing? Such an act would be undesirable. Now then, if you cannot handle this like an adult and have to resort to determining my sexual orientation... well, I'd prefer you not be on these forums at all.
If your goal was to provide "CONSTRUCTIVE" criticism, then perhaps you should keep in mind we're providing evidence to show how you can improve the articulation of your thoughts in the future.
P.S. Going back and editing your initial posts does not constitute "things that haven't even happened yet." It just signifies your lack of will to defend your statement.
Can you re do the download link, it doesn't work for me. It says that the file is not available. I want to put this on a box, and burn the launcher for the mac, pc, and linux version to a disc and put it in there!
Great job on this! If Minecraft ever was sold on disc (which it probably won't due to the fact that it is relatively small and Mojang doesn't really have a publisher to stock the shelves) I would absolutely buy it!

Though the "Games for Windows" worries me... it makes me feel like Microsoft will gain a monopoly on day to day life...
EDIT: Oh, and are you sure that's CMYK? That black on the back is a bit dark...

Thanks for the cover, here is a pic of me holding the printed version...
