My main server has decided to go with Feed the Beast, at least until 1.5 and the owner can't have multiple servers for the moment (He usually had two a few months ago (one being mostly vanilla + his own custom plugins), but I don't think he's got the capabilities at the moment). I'm taking it my other server's disappeared since I lost my internet back in July. I can't even find it's forums, let alone it's address. So.. I'm looking for a new haunt.
Yes, I've tried sifting through the servers, but I really don't want PvP, true vanilla, or whitelist (don't want to have to wait to get added.. I can understand the whole "disabling" my basic MC capabilities for a trial period, but whitelists irk me.) I want a SV server with some quirks about it. I'll even take a little lore, but I don't want something too heavyily focused either. PvP isn't completely off-limits though. I just don't want it to be the focus, like I'd imagine most PvP servers are.
Although, I could take a Hunger Games-type server on the side, but I primarily want mostly vanilla (with some bells and whistles, with a possibly dash of lore), some PvP/ PvP optional (but not a main focus), and no whitelist bs as my main server first.

"I don't plan to add a new dimension at the moment. It's just to performance heavy on servers, and the current dimensions need more attention before we start adding new ones." < Yeah, like biomes or actual varied terrain in the nether. Nether ruins didn't do the trick at all.
We have a Direwolf20 survival server going (with 24/7 dedicated hosting). The nice thing about the server is that it is mostly the stock modpack with no restrictions, but the server has a fairly friendly community. There is no whitelist either (We just don't publicly post the address) I PM'd you the server address.
If you're looking for a server to play on occasion, that's 'semi-similar' to Hunger Games you could try VillageHero, it's a brand new objective based server with similarities to MCHG. www.PlayVillageHero.com
I'll pop in these servers some time, but they're saved in my MC list for now. Even with all these mods, I still felt like I needed a new home server. Honestly, it's almost like a dream come, now that Forge and Optifine actually get along, even for me. The only thing lacking in SP right now is Somnia. The creator's apparently having internet troubles of his/ her own. (*sigh* Such an awesome mod to being missing out on. I can do without Magnetic drops, but this one hits the very core of my Singleplayer MC experience. I doubt it'll die though. It's just taking some time to update.)

Noxverse might be a good fit for you. There is a greylist, but you can log on, chat, look around a little bit. Greylist applications go here (post your in game name and age) and they are answered very quickly.
