You will not have an inventory. Upon clicking your inventory button, you bring up your deck screen which once I begin work on, you will fall in love with. That is where your deck will be stored, not physical items.
And the whole server will probably be in 1 huge city. Maybe 2 or 3 slightly smaller cities, but most likely 1 city with many subsections. There will be islands and the academies and stuff to visit and duel at but you will start off in the city. There will be less city like and more rural areas and it all depends on how many people we have and how I choose to expand the world!
And ranks have been thought about but not heavily. I will be tracking wins, loses, and ties that was something I decided on from the start. They can be viewed by anyone on your dueler profile (I'll explain more in many weeks when I actually start coding that or maybe I will explain on a day when I have nothing to talk about but a number update). Whether I introduce ranks is really something I have not decided upon since W/T/L may be all you need rather than rank. What do you guys want? Understand as I start working on these individual more up to you guys stuff I will post new polls asking for opinions. Right now this stuff is just theory.
Also, I will be updating the OP soon with all of the stuff contained in this thread for all of the new people.
I know a friend that can help build, and hes really good. He made this beautiful Dragon in one of my servers.
Eh if alpha testers want an alpha tester rank I have no problem adding that. Should not take more than 10 seconds to add that extra rank. I will probably have some for the special tournament winners. Any other ideas for ranks or other features? Anyone can answer. In other news I think I'm going to call it a night and check back in the morning to see how everything is doing and answer any questions that pop up tonight or any suggestions.
Not sure what we will need building wise so for now I am just not thinking about it and worrying about the coding aspect.
Are you gonna get rid of hunger? If not, I think you should. And are you gonna have someway to play the pieces of Exodia? Cause you can't summon more than 1 monster each turn and theirs 5 pieces.
Hunger and health will both being going. Of course you will have life points but they wont be done with the current health system, and for the pieces of exodia, the rule even in the TCG is that if you have all 5 cards in your hand or on the field you automatically win. I will just check if you have all 5 thats all. No reason to let the player play them. I may have a box come up and say "Would you like to summon Exodia." so they at least know what is going on but other than that it will be an automatic win.
I read through the pages of the thread and have a large interest in a server and undertaking of such magnitude. I'll do my best to stick around for testing and keep active in this thread to get the word out a little bit more. And props for coding every effect monster and magic/trap card to do exactly what it says; it is definitely an impressive feat.
As far as what you have said about the project and its features, I agree with everything you've said so far. I do have some suggestions however, just some thoughts which you can take as you will.
First off, pertaining to the recent topic of titles, I suggest having some sort of option system within the duelist profile to select from your titles your top X favorite ones to be displayed on the "front page" of your duelist profile. Maybe there is a way to see all of someone's titles, but your favorites will always be there. Maybe also there could be some way to customize an avatar, or something along those lines on, for the duelist profile as well. You may have already thought of this, but I'm just throwing it out there. Seeing as though custom images would require an immense extra load of work, you could provide a wide selection of Yu-Gi-Oh related avatars and possibly be open to suggestions for others people may want to be added, such as their favorite picture of their favorite character or anything like that, but a simple, but wide selection will be provided by default.
The next point I want to address is customization of houses. I think being able to own and customize a space and call it your own is invaluable. It also gives something to work toward and do when not dueling. I think they should be purchasable premade/prebuilt houses of various designs. Once you buy this premade house design, it will be created on the plot of land in the living section of the city as a blank slate. You can then buy furniture or accessories to design your house with from stores throughout the city. Maybe there is a certain piece which you want, but the store near you doesn't have it, so you have to travel through the city to get it, maybe stopping to duel along the way. This encourages travel, as well as being a money sink other than just cards. Plus being able to show off your house and be proud of it has always been a part of minecraft and many other games.
Those are the two suggestions which popped into my head as I was writing this. I had more when I was reading previous pages, but I've forgotten them by now. I'm serious when I say I want to help take an active role in improving and building this mod to be even greater than I know it is going to be. If I think of any more suggestions, I'll run them by you, but for now I'll wait for your feedback on these ideas. Let me know if you have any ideas you ever want to run by me to see if they seem fun or practical or anything like that, or you can just post them here and I'll probably respond to them.
Once again, I want to tell you how grand this project is, and if done well, it can be absolutely amazing. This includes of course the coding, appearance, scenery and building in the world itself, gameplay, GUI, ease of play, etc. I have faith that this will turn out to be worth it on your side, plus once we reach alpha and beta stages, it is going to be an amazing amount of fun building your deck finally and playing with it against other people and having tournament and building a community. I'm sure if done well, we could even create our own forums and we could have regulars to the server and such. But before this text wall gets any bigger, I'm going to stop.
I have a skype, I'm 19, and I'm going to college as a CS major, and eventually masters, dual majored with Mathematics. I'm on the computer consistently everyday, so I'm almost always available for contact if you need me for anything, or just bounce ideas off of each other in a thinktank sort of way or whatever. I'll message my skype if you want it once you get back to me, depending on whether you have a mic and skype. I'll check the thread again every once in a while to try to catch your reply while you're still online so I can counter-reply. Now, later then.
Wow thanks for showing such interest! I like your idea of showing the rank of your choice but seeing as I have not put too much thought into the ranking system and profile system I will save that idea for a later time. For the custom avatars, I may look into typing in a URL and having it bring up the picture on that URL. For example how our avatars on the forums work. It would take some experimenting and some learning of new stuff since I have never done something along those lines but I am sure it cannot be too difficult and may already exist, only requiring some slight altercations for our use. But yet again, that is something to think about later.
With the houses, I could do that but it would be after the base of the game is in as an added feature and not one required for start-up but I do like it.
I hope to see you around more Lord and trust me there will be more things to debate in the future.
Also, my poll disappeared... Anyone know how that happened. Is it not allowed to post a poll like that or did I accidentally set a timer even though I am sure I did not.
I was saying instead of using custom avatars, you could use Yu-Gi-Oh themed avatars which are pre-picked by you or staff and then an option system where you can choose one to display on your profile. I guess custom avatars could be cool, but you would have to regulate that bad images don't get put up and things along those lines, so I think having predefined choices would be much better.
And I figure for the houses, it will come after all of the cards are coded, but those were just some ideas for you to write down. I figure there can be a separate "inventory" which is not visible unless you are in your house or there could be a block in every house at the entrance which will switch your deck inventory with your house design inventory. You then put down your accessories or furniture, then switch back. Maybe you could utilize a portal system in which stepping through the "portal" into your house loads the house "world" and in that world your inventory is changed. I like the idea of the block which changes your inventory because people could buy a large, grand house, then style it nicely and then host tournaments or events from their house. You can't do this if your inventory is always the house inventory inside the house. Of course, you'd have to add a cooldown "timer" which would prevent people from switching back and forth very quickly and lagging the server/game; maybe 5 or so seconds would be fine. This would then access your stored house items. Another option is to have a "bag" type item which when you activate would bring up your house items. Since you're changing the inventory completely, this isn't as practical as it normally would be, since normally you just switch to it on your hotbar and it opens it up. My favorite is still the block at the entrance of each house. Only the house owner can use it in their house. No one can destroy blocks in it, just like not being able to grief the city itself, etc. And you'd probably have to add a "house items" tab to the trading/betting system, but I'm sure that wouldn't be huge, though it would come after the cards of course.
If you have any ideas you want to talk about or bounce off me, let me know. Or if you want my Skype to contact me, just message me or include it in your next post. Later for now.
We don't wanna add to much to your plate but...what about an auctioning system? Where players can auction off rare cards to other players? Just a thought though.

That could be an option, but I think this could be done on a forums environment or between players just bidding. A full auction house seems a little much. Maybe you could set up stores to sell your cards. Price them and then when people enter your rented/bought store they click on a shelf which will display the cards inside that shelf, as well as the price. Just brainstorming though.

the store and shelf display would be the best option really, I fear if it were left to the players to get the items and money to each other there would be alot of scamming going on.
Could have sword I replied but I'll try this again.
For houses it is something that I need to think about. For the stores and auctions it is something for me to think about but it would not be that hard to add either.
And I see what you mean with the avatars. Yet again, something to think about.
I know it may seem like I am just saying that I have to think about everything, but I do have to and I cannot really worry about some of that stuff until I finish the actual cards.
Yeah, I'm just brainstorming at the moment. We should create an excel chart about ideas and their iterations for future projects so we don't forget about them later. Plus, that could organize your projects, though I know the main thing is just finishing the cards for now, which is obviously the right thing to do since it has to be done before anything else can be done. Just a thought.
