So, I still have to fix up a few this and thats, but essentially, you have ONE shot to do anything on this server. If you die, you're banned permanently.
I've put it for only 10 slots, so if I need more, I'll up it.
Good luck!
Server:
9435.mc.mpgs.co
Edit:
I've added 'Grave-Stones.' When you die, you leave a sign with your name, date/time of death.
You have absolutely no obligation to give it a go, but thanks for the feedback.
Personally, I'm curious how the world'll look over time. Every person who dies leaves a mark, whether it be a building or a mine. I think it'll be interesting to see how it'll form after x-amount of time.
I'm thinking of trying a 'ghost' sort of thing instead of the ban. ie: When folks die, they become a 'ghost.' They can move around, but they can't interact with the environment. Other players who are'Alive' are unable to see them as well.
Mind you, I'm not looking for a full successful server.
There was a story, which for the love of me can't find, in which there was a minecraft world in a USB stick. You would play the game, and when you died, you would pass the USB to someone else, and that cycle would continue. (I'm a little tired, so I'm not sure if I'm articulating the story properly!) The idea was that the next person would walk through the world, stumble upon the ruins of another players old base... Honestly, it's a little tough for me to describe. (It's late where I am)
Same idea, slightly larger scale. It's a hardcore vanilla server, and hey, I'm hoping some folks'll enjoy the risk of a permanent death.
In a months time, I want to see what everyone has done to shape the world in their own way before 'passing on.' Abandoned or half-finished buildings, the scars and marks left, etc. etc.
It's just a little experiment that I hope other folks would like to participate in.
I disagree with most people. I think this is a fantastic idea. We have to learn not to take anything for granted. And it is VERY realistic. Just like real life, when we die, we don't respawn, we are gone forever.
The only thing that would completely guarantee the ing awesomeness of this server idea is if pvp was turned OFF. Otherwise its just a butt picking contest of a bunch of CoD fags who're running around killing everyone and griefing..If pvp is indeed switched off then this server's idea is by far the best. And the sheer fear of every last thing being the end of you, Its just thrilling. ^^

You know, that might be a good thing to consider. Does anyone else have opinions on pvp?
This would be a great idea, but people would just move like 2000 blocks away. If you made it so that it would only be a 500 by 500 world, then you would really see the marks left by other players

Shrug, some tweaking is needed.
Gotta make a safe spawn when I have the time.
Also, I am certain this is posted in the wrong forum. Could a mod remedy this?

Then the death ban wouldn't mean anything.

Thanks for the feed-back so far, everyone.
No, it's a marvelous idea.
I might make another server like this, minus the pvp.
1. The ban happens after your second death, so I gotta fix that.
2. You guys have control over some commands that I don't want you folks to have.
If you've been banned, and still want to help me fix up the server, shout the name here, and I'll unban you.
Ban should be working. Tell me if it isn't otherwise. Thinking about giving everyone a journal.
Good luck everyone, you got ONE life, ONE chance.
Better to work together, you'll last longer.
