I remember when I first joined I.G. at the original spawn, and the first 2 people that made an impression on me were B0wz3r, hunting me down, and Merila defending me. Within the first 5 minutes, I was already sucked in. I had my first ally, so I didn't feel like a loner. I had my first enemy, so I had motivation to get good stuff so I could defeat them. I travelled a little ways out of spawn and found an undeveloped area to start building into a hillside. I made a small shack, and dug my way down to start finding ore. I ended up near a ravine underground, and was able to get going rather quickly. B0wz3r found my house, and despite killing me and taking some stuff (surprisingly forgiving in what he left behind) he also informed me of this weird "Precious Stones Protection" thingy. An enemy giving me tips to play? WHAT KIND OF TRICKERY IS THIS!? XD
I was starting to get some traffic near the house, as it wasn't too far out from spawn, and some random guy by the name of _Set offered me protection and a new home in his clan that he and his brother were working on. I traveled to the destination via minecart, and was awe-struck at his in-progress undersea build. I offered my aid in any way, and we worked diligently on clearing the water from the GIGANTIC central dome chamber of the newly-dubbed Atlantis. Let me tell you folks, I died more times from drowning that day than I could even count. And you know what? I loved it. I was having fun. I was working with other players to construct a project that would have been much too large, and too futile, to complete single-handed. I had never really had much experience with multi-player Minecraft before.
I learned and actually ENJOYED making larger builds, and focused more on detail, because I wasn't just making things for myself anymore. I wanted others to enjoy my creations. There was never much reason to go beyond dirt hut in single-player, and I was constantly looking at others' builds for inspiration, for cool little tips, for neat tricks, and anything I could get my hands on. I found a style I liked, I found things I was good at, and people began to know me for what I could, and couldn't (*cough* PvP *cough*) do. I was always greeted back to the server with Enthusiasm, and there was not a day that went by where there wasn't at least the OPTION to pvp somewhere. But it wasn't just about that. Everyone knows I failed miserably at most fights, so I focused on other tasks available in the game, because they were made infinitely more fun by the multi-player aspect as well. It wasn't just a "Kill or be killed" kind of server. It was a "Kill, or be killed, or go explore, or create something new, or play some quests, or make new friends, or just run around in spawn like a moron because you can" kind of server.
This server was, essentially, the very definition of the Ultimate Minecraft Experience. In the 2 years I spent on this server, I made tons of friends, a handful of enemies, and a name for myself. For anyone reading this months or years from now that didn't get the chance to try the server out for yourself, just know that you missed one heck of a good time. The diversity of the people on this server is what really made it unique. We had the perfect size for a community, in my opinion. We had plenty of people to make it fun and populated, but it was just small enough that you knew people by their names. You had experiences with almost everyone on the server that made it memorable.
Infinity Gate. Fun, Fair, Freedom. It'll last in our hearts forever.
I just created a minecraft server that is very similar to infinity gate. we use precious stones, have simpleclans, and there is a lot of land left to explore. We have an economy and player shops, as well as an admin shop and a mob arena. I am planning to add some jobs and/or a pvp arena in the near future. join the discord for the IP discord.gg/g5tcp2
we have an economy that is going to be expanding, a mob arena that is in progress, and a lot of land. Right now it is basically a vanilla server with minimal plugins, but I think you all will like what you join
aww Kody I read the whole thing again and it still makes me smile. I do miss all the good times back on Infinity Gate. Your experience sums up exactly what we aimed for with the server because it was precisely the type of server we couldn't find. Like you said, it felt like what online Minecraft should be, so why the hell was no one else doing it?
Exactly how I feel. It's a true testament to the magic behind this community that I still find myself digging this forum up and reading the new replies. The memories are unforgettable, I loved my time here. Thanks again to everyone that made this server what it was, love you guys. Hope everyone is doing well!
Still feel this way
