edit: nevermind. seems half the thread has been eaten by the dark forces of the internet.
anyway. im assuming im whitelisted?
also. are you able to retrieve the information that was on the server.
Apparently a moderator deleted the thread, because it was becoming too big for the starting up section. A small notice about that would be nice, but whatever.
Jacob, you're still on the whitelist. Everybody who has logged in to the server should be preserved. The people who haven't logged in yet should contact me, so I can add them to the new whitelist.
World file: The latest backup was made 2 weeks ago.
iConomy balance: Gone. I will give players who joined before a refund.
mcMMO stats: Gone as well.
Plugin configurations: Preserved, all plugins are up-to-date as well.
Server logs: Perserved to a few days ago.
Unless somebody from Brohoster is as kind as to send me all my server data, this is all I have.
I don't like how everything is gone just with the blink of an eye. Usually, I make a backup on my own computer every day, but because of the bad connection here (I'm on holiday), I wasn't able to do this the last 2 weeks.

Well, I'm a bit in doubt about the final license now. I have everything set up, except for the RAM/HDD space division. I am not really sure about that.
The following options are available:
(all values are in MB)
4096 RAM, 512 HDD.
3840 RAM, 4096 HDD.
3584 RAM, 7680 HDD.
3328 RAM, 11264 HDD.
3072 RAM, 14336 HDD.
I don't want to go with any less than 3GB of RAM.
Does anybody know how much a server usually needs?
Right now my complete server (at home, using the same plugins and world files as the new server is going to get) takes up 118 MB, and the world file (for backups) is 102 MB.
I want regular backups, but keep in mind that I'll download the backups to my own PC as often as possible.
512 MB might be a bit small, as it only gives me space for 3 extra backups, and that's only when the world doesn't become bigger.
The hosting option i was looking at for 85$ a month gives us 3 gigs of ram witch only 128mb is used by the os. 30 gigs of hard drive space. 50 player slots.
if you guys want to see one of there servers working log into getyour.minecrafton.com its a server running on there Iron plan witch is 1-gig ram 10 gig hdd and 15 player slots. i jumped on there and there running bukkit with about the same addons we are and it run smooth. so 3 gigs should be plenty of ram with the small os footprint. and 30gigs hdd space is plenty for backups. extra maps for other game types. or what ever else needs to be done.
Also they offer a discount for paying for more then 1 month at a time. 3 months is 5% off 6 months is 10% and 1 year is 15%. so basically ordering for 3 months with 5% off makes it only 75 a month in steed of 85.

I think we should get as much RAM as possible. That's why I think LethalDrive will be a good server host. I'd rather not spend too much on HDD space, because I can regularly download the backups to my own computer, and then delete the backups from the server. This means we need much less HDD space, so more money is left over for additional RAM.
Also, if we go with LethalDrive, we get 25% off for life, so we can have a more expensive package at the same price. I think this would be our best option. What's your opinion on this?

I am really sorry about this, but there wasn't much I could do. Downloading the world file would take me like 1 day, and the probability of the connection crashing before I would finish was about 99.9%. I even had to try downloading a 200 KB plugin multiple times, before I finally got it. Imagine a > 200 MB file...
What is your Minecraft username?Semiliat although in game refer to me as semi

Why do you want to join? because i am sick of random pvp servers i would really like to get into a hardcore roleplay server, moderators who are actually fair
Are 50 player slots really a must? I mean I wouldn't complain, but so far, even with the massive amounts of new whitelists, the most that have ever been on the server while I was playing has been around 7 or so. I can appreciate the 50 slot as a requirement for the proposed castle seige events though.
more player slots in any server take more ram and bandwidth. The only problem i have with lethaldrive is that yeah we get 25% off but with that we are going with a guy who just lost his own company. is starting a new one and there is no real security on how long it will last. and from what i know about running a server people are not going to play and spend time if another world loss could or couldn't come at any time. where paying as much as we would at other hosters who have already been going for years and that has full 24/7 support if anything gos wrong. plus the hdd space comes with the extra ram its how that have there systems set up. doing custom battle maps or any other map is going to take space and having to upload/download every week is a lot of work with a low connection. i have a decent connection where i am and plan on backing up as much as possible because i don't like losing my hard work. and 1 gig of hdd space wont get you far for doing anything other then running a small map with no plugins/addons. best thing we can do is try a lower version of what they have and see how it works before we get a full system. basically im looking for whats going to be easy on us and good for the players of the server.
also i started work on my own minecraft mod so well see how that gos. :biggrin.gif:
I'm thinking about making some specific mods for our server. If you guys have ideas.
Like if you want new ores or items or anything before the new map is generated.
and in the mean time if anyone needs help with redstone/machanics of mincraft let me know i have a custom world up for download.

I understand. Although I am actually quite confident of this company now. The legality issues he had with the company not really existing because he wasn't 18 yet can't repeat themselves anymore, and while his company is new, he has a lot of experience running Minecraft servers.
I am currently working myself trough tons of hosts, but what I want is something like this:
- No nonsense. I don't need help with configuring or installing. I want full access, and I'll do everything myself. --> FTP access, decent Control Panel, ability to install every plugin I want. So, I don't really want to go with multiplay, because of this. They have good service, but I'd rather configure everything myself. Also, their custom permissions system and having to choose from a restricted list of plugins doesn't really suit me.
- Configurable. I want to be able to make small tweaks to the package without having to directly choose a much more expensive package.
- Reliable. I at least want a host with good reviews and experiences. I know LethalDrive doesn't have this, but I have been following this situation for a long time, and I am actually quite confident in JWJ, going professional.
- Low ping. I want people from all over the world to be able to play here.
- Real gameservers. No VPS.
I say we should start with a small server on LethalDrive, and see how it goes. Make lots of backups, and if this company works, we got ourself an excellent setup, and great extendibility. I know it might sound like taking a risk, but if we stick with a small package for now, and backup regularly, I don't think we are putting all our eggs in one basket.
As I said, I am still open to other hosts, and I am currently looking trough the hosts list.
I could also set up my server at home, in that case I would have full control, a lot of RAM, a decent CPU, but the connection might be a problem. It is definitely worth considering, though, as we're getting fibre optics at the end of this year, which means a much, much better connection.

Those player slots are for servers using no mods or plugins. With these plugins, my server uses around 1.5 GB of RAM. I want some extra space for peaks, so I don't have to push the server completely to it's limit. But you are right. Instead of looking at the money, we could just go with 2GB again, and see how it turns out. If more space is needed, an upgrade can be made very easily.
In my opinion, starting with a medium size server on a monthly basis at lethal drive is a good idea. When its stable for 2-3 months we can extend it to a bigger size and pay for a longer time (to save money...) and everything is fine.
So, let the money collecting begin :wink.gif:
You can count on at least 5€ from me each month (depending on how much time I can spend online...).
That's nice to hear. I think a good starter would be 2GB of RAM, and 2GB of HDD space. This would cost $42.75 monthly. At the start of each month, I will look at the amount of money earned by donations, and the rest of the costs will be evenly shared between me and BinaryHelix, if he agrees with that.

Hey, i can't seem to join, it says:
'Failed to connect to the server
Connection timed out: connect'
I joined on: 50.22.36.164:25598
Anyone help with this Cheers.
That's because of the server being temporarily down. Read the first post for detailed information about this.

It will be around early august. You can directly follow the news here: http://lethaldrive.com/
LethalDrive is the current host I'm planning to go with.
