Until 1.9 is out and there is a stable Bukkit version to go with it, this server is whitelisted and wont accept new players. Please do come back when 1.9 is out and we will be happy to let you join our fantastic group!
Welcome to the WITA server!
We are americans, englishmen, danes and swedes between 11 and 40+ playing, chatting and
having fun together. We play on the fantastic seed -1784338777788894343 also known as
MadMaxHH´s World in the air (WITA). For more info about the seed see this thread: http://www.minecraftforum.net/viewtopic.php?f=1031&t=239762
Hey guys, we're at 1.4 still. I tried loading the world up in vanilla with a whitelist, but:
a) no chest protection is scary
:cool.gif: no grief protection is scary
c) there is too much fire!
I just woke up and Bukkit has a 1.5 TEST version out people are testing right now. Hopefully by tonight they've identified and worked out any bugs and released a 1.5 stable version.
I guess I am out since the server is at 1.4. Sounds like you guys have a good plan.
Mr B has a .bin file if you want to convert back to 1.4, he will be happy to mail it to you. Its kind of lonely in town now, since everybody updated... :-(

I would love to help on the village, I have a ton of Cobble that I need to use. How are you planning it out, or are you?
Not yet. Just have cleared the place of lot of trees. Maybe all who want in should go there and look around and then we could give suggestions on placement and size and stuff. I really dont know how to plan things like this together with others.
I just now came up with an idea. I will look for maps from medival swedish towns to get inspiration about how to plan a town.

I think that is a great idea!
I built a castle once that was based on Heiligenblut, Austria. It turned out just okay, but it was definitely fun to use something real as an inspiration:

That would be Awesome to do a town in the style of swedish medival. My preference for planning and building would be to we set up a perimeter and then roads inside the perimeter and then let people build in the empty lots. With the given swedish style as everyones guide.

What do you guys think?
PS. That is really cool Serra.
I agree. If we are going to try and do this in a constructive way, we need to set areas for homes, business, etc. An idea would be to use signs to place in the lots stating what each one will be and who is working on it. Placing signs will help us build the roads and set lot sizes before we start building. It's easier to move a sign than it is an entire building. LOL!
From what I can find doing some quick research, most towns were built circular with the main castle in the middle. I am not sure I like this set up. I did find some towns that are built with somewhat straight streets, usually going up hill to the castle. I think this type of setup would suit the area we have. They have ports, logging facilities and such on the water and all homes and business fronts are always connected to the streets. Think of Italy and how the houses are built. This is pretty much how the midevil towns were set up. There is of course a large wall around the town, sometimes with draw bridges to keep out unwanted visitors.

Agree. To both.
Tonight me, SerraNova and Mr Burrows have worked with landscaping and trying diffrent styles of walls. In my experience castles tend to be situated on a hill. In the area there is a suitable hill. After talking to my friends mentioned I made a sketch with our proposal of a simple layout (click to see bigger picture). Red is for castle, yellow for village, light blue for harbour and orange for farming fields:
Here is a principle sketch of a early medival castle with town:
Here is a principle sketch of a late medival castle:

Pink this is awesome! Sounds like a great plan! I have a lot of stone in my community chest. Do we have chests set up by the new area? If so I can start moving the stone over to the chest area.
hey guys this sounds awesome! i would really like to help but i currently have 1.5 :sad.gif:
can someone tell me how i can return to 1.4 so that i can help build this awesome structure?
Here are the beginings of the site, we have a rough outline of the roads (sand) and part of the wall (cobble, to the wood cabin in top left corner where it turns), and a possible lot size (white wool, it is 10X10)
The area we're talking about for the village is about 65 x 75 blocks, so 10x10 lots would give us plenty.
For a medieval village, buildings should be smallish, and not have too much space between them, so that might be about right? We'd want to vary the size somewhat, though.
Also, we thought that the area of sand in the middle would be a good central square area, but we excavated the sand itself so it wouldn't be wasted and roofed the hole with dirt for now.

We have a log cabin with chests, workbench and furnaces.
SerraNova and ijnewtonmm - good job! I went over there today and had a look an I really like the wall. Using wood makes it more swedish, more rural and older. This is not a fancy rich village. You are right about the houses should be small and be cramped together. Lots of between 8 and 15 in size should be good. People had their animals living with them but all the farming was outside the walls (exept for some cabbage-patches). Not much grass att all inside the village, mostly dirt.
I have an proposal where I did small changes on where the roads and walls are. I think a main road from the harbour to the castle, through a square will look fine. I have made two bigger gates and one small. What do you think of this, please tell me your ideas and suggestions (click for bigger):
Here are some additional pictures of houses:
IF I will play today (the spring weather is lovely) I will start levelling out the ground on some places, not make an totally flat village, but a bit more even.
There is a place at the lake where I have put a "screenshot-tower-base" if you want to take pictures from the same place as I do.
