Love the developed feedback guys. I thrive on it. Thank you.

So, I was running around the server alone looking at the stylish castles and ugly cobblestone moneymaking towers that people have built and thought, what if the stylish buildings were separate from everything else? So, what if you divide up the plots and have like one half the money making buildings and stuff, and the other half our houses.
We wouldn't have both unless we could afford 2 plots and chose to keep them away from each other, you'd just ask new people if they are going to use the new plot to make money, or just build a nice looking house and just give them a plot in the area depending on how they answer the question.
Then all the nice looking houses wouldn't be hard to get a good look at with the towers in the way. The only thing about it is, you can't have any of the viewable area just plain ugly while in the houses area, but they can do what they want with all the space under that area.
Possibly a nice looking tall building area also. Then you can have the shorter nice looking buildings not being overshadowed by the towers.
I dunno, this is just a suggestion. I'm guessing you won't end up doing it since you'll have to move around a bunch of the current plots to work with this and possibly any of the plots of people who ask for a plot in the nice looking area and build a giant cobblestone tower.
Still, doesn't hurt to make a suggestion.
I thought about that at a point as well. The only problem is, when I set people up, I set them up near other people, so they have neighbors. We have a great community and I love the way people get along and work together. When I do set people up, they're just excited and dealing with a new world with rules and abilities and just kind of soaking up what's going on. My fear concerns asking this already overwhelmed new person, "So, are you going to make a money making machine or an elegant keep?", as they try to figure out where to put the chests, crafting block, furnace, and saplings I just handed them. lol.
So, more thinking aloud and brainstorming than anything, what if we set u a zoned community area? The plots there would be purchasable and seperate from common land plots. In this area, we would probably need a theme. Much like how I imagine BroVille was setup, but clearly it wouldn't be that theme. At this point I am really just reacting to feedback, so this isn't concrete yet. Perhaps more of a springboard to generate additional ideas.
As a seperate avenue, we could start work on a larger community project with a similar, but more unified objective. My only hesitation has concerned how we handle community resources on such a project and how new members will interact with that project if permissions are completely open. I have nothing but trust with the current "regulars" that play on Synesthesia, but I fear alienating or excluding anyone if I set specific parameters for participation. Or, is participation a reward for a certain criteria, action, or behavior?
These complex cause and effect reactions are the things I keep in mind with the larger events that occur on Synesthesia. If approached correctly, they can be amazing. However, if we enter into something like this wrong, people's time, hard work, and resources can go to waste or even be griefed maliciosly as our community grows.
If you have ideas or feedback, you know I'm game. I just want Synesthesia to be the best it can be for the members residing within it. With time, participation, and feedback, it can be. Its really only been up for just under a month and we've come a long way. Its all on the great community we have. :smile.gif:
I like the idea of the zoned community, it's a nice compromise between all ideas. I would say though that if you delve to deep into how to get people started with their plots rather than keeping it open ended, it can get too bogged down and minimize creativity. Having free reign to do with your plot what you please is a great thing.
I would say that if you did create the community zone or the larger community project, if it's possible, have that area or the server itself do an auto backup in case there is any griefing. That way we can restore the project if there IS a griefer and deal with the them as needed. It's also a way to test the trust level of members with out too much damage being caused should they break the rules.
Also, I like this idea of bouncing ideas back and forth, it really helps a person grasp what's going on or what could happen.
So... Yay for discecting plugin threads every day! :S Its for a good cause. Just time consuming to do it right.
Not waiting on much now. Primarilly ICShop, which would be our server global shop and the basis for our buy/sell economy. They've split up IConomy into pieces for trading, shops, money handling, etc...
We can do without the sign shops for a little while and the trading, but the server's global shops are a deal breaker. Right now they're working out some bugs on how the shops handle appropriate currency exchange and whether they can do bundling. EX: Selling or buying things by the stack. Once they get this ironed out, we ~should~ be good to go for beta as far as I can tell. If they definitively decide not to do bundling, I'll just have to overhaul our buy/sell economy values. Which means I need to re-price everything from item prices to land prices. Currency will have to function in much larger denominations to do this correctly. I'll continue to keep a close eye on it, so we can jump when the time comes.
With the way things are now, sometimes towers can get in the way of your plot, or sometimes not even a tower if your plot is small such as mine. But on the other hand, you can make towers look pretty. Take Nbot's tower for example. 100% of it is based off of farming platinum, but it looks pretty darn nice on the outside. Everyone has the option to make a tower if they wish to and have it visible. You can still see people's plots if you go up close on the road. On the other hand, it is kind of annoying when someone blocks all view of your home with a cobblestone monstrosity which is not visibly pleasing whatsoever. Thinking from an admins perspective, making 2 separate areas might be hard, and with the size of the plots area the way it is, if you add another area the same size it would cover a lot of the map and he would HAVE to delete at least one of the wonders (cool things on the map such as dungeons). From a new players perspective I'd have to agree with Lucid. It would be very overwhelming and they would always ask why they cant make have the same thing on one plot or have a moneymaking home that looks good.
People will always block other's plots when the community grows. There will be houses in front of yours no matter what. That cannot be changed.
Just wondering, are you ever gonna delete the plots of people who haven't come on for a long time without any warning? Like the people who have done pretty much nothing to their plots.
Did you log into Synesthesia?: No im running Beta at the moment
If yes, What was your impression?: photos looked good and interesting
What makes you a good addition to this server?: always be on, log in daily

We have 500 available plots. We're using no more than 100, so I'm not feeling like we're hurting to reconcile those plots just yet. Primarily though, out of respect for the members, I'm leaving them. If a month goes by after switching to beta and they still haven't logged in, or we are suddenly in need of plots, I will map edit them appropriately. But, for now, we wait patiently out of respect for the work people put into those lots. I do expect many of them to come back upon our beta transition.
Did you log into Synesthesia?: No becuz im on Beta

What makes you a good addition to this server?: Like most people I love to build, the thing i like to build the most is rail! so i think i can help make a mass transit with the help of sum other members!

Hey guys its Tainted, I want to let everyone know that balancing Beta SSP and this Alpha SMP is getting to be a little troublesome so I've decided to stick with Beta, and when this server runs the Beta in the future I'll hop right back on the bandwagon.
I finished the Creeper Coaster video for that roller coaster I've been working so hard on! Its really my first video, but I think it turned out pretty well!
I really had fun doing those videos and wouldn't mind doing more if there was something worth spending more time on. I'm glad you enjoyed them! Open to projects at the moment, while they're still working on that iCShop plugin.
I was thinking about doing a tour of mine and Nbot's tower since ive never seen a mob grinder quite that size before, but we still have to finish the outside/make it look cozy inside

Most likely when beta doesn't have all those bugs
Mostly just waiting on the IConomy iCshop plugin to get ironed out. I'm guessing it shouldn't be too long now. :smile.gif:
Enjoy!
