The Empire of Valterae is great and powerful. Its hold on the continents of the old world is near absolute and little seemed likely to change that. That was how it had been as long as mortals could remember... but then the new world was discovered, hoping to study the oceans the explorer Javek discovered an entirely new continent and the race was on. The smaller nations are barely able to maintain independence but this new world could change that, what secrets could it hold, what insights... what weapons of war? Well to many the arguments seem mute as Valterae beat them all there by months and has already begin to set up a powerful colony to begin exploring this new world from. However is this colony as united as it seems? Many have made the voyage hoping for a new level of freedom from the oppressive empire but the law within the colony is as strict as those laws at home. Could the Empires command of this new world be stopped? Could new empires form or could what's found there shift the balance back home?
The Empire Across The Ocean (name might change) is a new server in the works. It is heavily inspired by my experiences on the Heroes of Galderon server, that is to say that players will not only be able to impact the course of the world in this RP but also be able to shape the world and form their own factions and forces to stake their claims in the new world. What this means is that, outside of protected areas (mostly areas that double as tutorials and such) players will be able to edit the world and build their towns and fortresses to help project their power. While everyone will be allowed to build, building will have rules, much like HOG did to ensure no dirt huts or modern art will find their way onto this fantasy RP server. As well as this, other then at the start where staff will help ease the RP into happening, players will take the roles of the politicians, governors, rebel faction leaders and so forth within the new world. All politics at all levels will be run and decided by players. You manage to form a breakaway nation? not only are its laws up to you (within reason) but you can decide its manner of government and how succession will be handled. For example, while the empire is a monarchy, its colony is ruled more like a republic and as such hosts elections to elect a council and a guvnor who will then vote on law changes as well as acting as judge for criminal matters, that means you could persuade people to elect you the next guvnor and then, if you can get your council to agree, enact all sorts of laws! (again, within reason).
We plan to have a class and race system to allow you to level up and unlock skills and abilities, though nothing particularly overpowered, to reward people for being active and give people unique ways to approach and deal with situations.
Another aspect is, that while this server is player driven, especially when it comes to factions and politics there will be events either to do with the goings on in the old world, new discoveries or anything else that we come up with. These events will not forcefully kill players, forcefully change governments or start internal wars or any such thing. These events will serve to help drive the RP and provide interesting situations for the RP to happen around. An example might be that the Empire has declared war on a smaller kingdom and now demands you send your best soldiers back, weakening the colonies position or a rare artefact has been discovered that allows the holder a great power and now the chase is on for the various factions to try and claim it as their own.
For all of these points we will be listening very closely to how users feel about events and see where we can implement your ideas and thoughts into making the server the best experience it can be. As I said, this is intended to be player driven.
As I have eluded to, there will be an application process, this is mostly to ensure that players are committed to roleplay and to help reduce incidents of greifing and ensure players understand the rules before they join, such as the rules for building and the accepted methods of RP.
Currently the team is just the two of us and so as well as announcing this I am also hoping I can find people to help me configure and dial in the plugins as well as assist with building. On top of this we might end up asking for people to help test features like class balance and such.
