How did an entire town get wiped from the map

well after it was abandoned it was tore apart by players and was eventually reverted to the map

I'm findimg myself pretty worried about my town, last server I was on, a town member stole all the town funds and the town reverted to the map again. Like riverbrick. Will that happen if for some reason xerces loses funds?
