-My- question I'd like answered is if us Minecraft "Premium" users that purchased Minecraft back before beta will get this thing for free.
It's seriously not sitting well with me that us Premium users were promised that we'd get content way back when once they started selling "beta" accounts:
We will also change the license to remove the line that promises all future versions of the game for free. Please note that this change only affects people who buy the game after December 20, so if you got the game for during alpha, you will still get all future updates for free, despite this change. A promise is a promise.
Buying the game during beta will include all updates up until release, of course, and bug patches will be free.
And while I can understand that things like conventions get people cloaks... I haven't so much as seen one for us "alpha" Premium users... now I see this feature that has rolled out and it's going to be a charged service.
Something else is that while I did read that private servers are not going away... a friend brings up a good point that while they -won't- go away, there's nothing that said they wouldn't be continued to be updated? Is that right?
That's my two concerns... Updates continuing to the program for private server hosting, and of whether or not us purchasers before the "beta" update get this Realms for free once it's done?
The cost of upkeep for free servers for life for all alpha players there are would be a staggering amount of money. I highly doubt they would hand out free servers. That's...ya, no.
I see this as a really smart move by mojang- offering real Minecraft hosting by people who are equally invested in the game as the players wanting to rent the server. So many server hosts out there these days aren't so great, Mojang is trying to make it easier for their consumers to have access to this sort of stuff in a much simpler manner than it is now.
Mojang isn't ripping you off or denying you features, don't look at it that way.
A lot of things have changed since then, unsure on how things are meant to be now, but I believe, all players before January 1st Of 2011, should receive capes in honor of their sporting-ship of being the first 100,000 players of minecraft. They are they people who built the community and made it everlasting as it is today!
But, for the most part, things have changed and I doubt we will ever get any recognition of our time on minecraft unlike those high end people, like Sacheveral, or SethBling or anything.
As per me, I've been playing Minecraft Since before indev, which was a long time ago, I started play in 2009, I forget what month though! My Minecraft Forums join date was in December of 2010 when I heard about the forums and it's amazing sportsmen-ship towards all of the Minecrafters out there!
A realms server for all the old time players would be nice though, but as I say this for the final time, I do not think Jeb_ or any of the mojangsters will EVER think about it's initial population in which started the Minecraft Community! But this is my opinion, heck, I could be wrong! xD

This just means update to the game's engine will be given for free, same as everyone else. Minecraft Realms is a separate feature from the client. What you are saying by this is like saying "Hey, since the Multiplayer tab consists within Minecraft we get free servers!" they are different things.

The answer, is no.
