Welcome! This thread is the official thread of the Minecraft Shipbuilder's Guild. All shipbuilders are welcome, and all members of the Guild are listed in the tags on this thread.
What is this 'Guild' you speak of?
The Shipbuilder's Guild was formed in order to unite us shipbuilders, who now plague the forums like barnacles. This thread is both a place where all shipbuilders can flaunt their latest and greatest achievements, for example fleets, and also where others can ask for help or just comment on other ships.
Can people join the Guild?
Anyone can join the Guild, so long as they make ship that's up to scratch and high-quality!
Who leads the Guild?
The Guild leads the Guild! All of us shipbuilders are equal.
Kind of odd/on topic,I'd also like to mention that not only I make historical ships from the Napoleonic eras, but me and my other friend (from real life) makes a lot of fiction ships, such as ships that are LIKE the Napoleonic era warships, except just not historically accurate, we come up with the details ourselves. We normally name them from astronomical objects and constellations (well one reason is I'm an astronomer, and some names in astronomy sound really cool on a ship depending on it's use). Right now I have a 2nd rate ship-of-the-line in the works being ready for construction. I will also release French and British versions of these astronomical ships.
Omg!!! so cool. I'm just have a thing for ships. Don't know why but i do. joining your guild would be just awesome for me since ships are pretty much all that i build. i also do a lot of designing for the engineering parts of the ships(i am just finishing on a reciprocating engine that i am planing to put in a passenger liner that i will start on soon).
Here is my current build I am working on: http://www.minecraft...-with-download/
Hope you enjoy it!!!
Yes, you can join the Guild. If you create a shipyard, where you display all of your ships, we'll also put a link to it like the others. I'll send you a PM

Greetings all sightseers and shipbuilders alike, This is Asikar bringing you some behemoths of the sky from my shipyard, click on the banner for a better look at my ships.
The Hailstorm class heavy destroyer : HMS Undaunted
The Thunderhead class light carriers : HMS Harbinger (left) and The HMS Surinam (Right)
The dreadnought class light attack ship HMS Stratica
Hey folks. I may as well get my own main post underway.
I build (mainly) late 18th century and Napoleonic style ships, as close to Steve scale as I can. I've also got a first world war Dreadnought, and I might build more of that style at some point. The good Captain already posted a link to my shipyard up yonder, but I'll throw it in here as well.
I'll put in a few more screenshots of my builds for a taster. Click on the spoiler to expand! All of my screenshots can be found in my thread.
Anybody's welcome here, however much you know about shipbuilding. We're here to help people to find great ship builds and to help anybody who's having trouble. Feel free to ask anything about building ships, and I'm sure we'll have at least one person who has the answer.
I am Sillouete. I've been building ships for over a year now. I build mostly sailing ships, both realistic and fantasy ones. Here are some samples of my work:
Ahoy, there! I am carguy1230 (carguy123 on PlanetMinecraft.) I know it's confusing, as there is already a carguy123 in Minecraft, but I made my PMC account before I made my Minecraft account. My favourite builds are 18th and 19th century sailing ships. My flagship is USS Constitution and my current project is an ongoing series of ships; I am building the ships captained by Jack Aubrey as I work my way through the Aubrey-Maturin series of books, by Patrick O'Brian.
I've been waiting for something like this for a long time! Quick question; where can I get one of those images for the guild for my signature?

For a change of tack, (pun intended) I'll be starting a small series of 1910-1935 ships, including a fully furbished Titanic which I will release as a map.Should be interesting

Hi, everyone.
I'm skylancer3441 (skylancer-3441 on PMC). I've been building modern ships about 18 mounths now and sail ships about 5 mounths.
I'd like to build aircraft carriers, but I've build some other ships too. (Well, as far as I know, there weren't any Age of Sail aircraft carriers IRL )
the last one I've made - XVIII century british bomb vessel
Wow, this is great stuff! Good job all of you. In particular I love Lesica91's Bismarck model - I have never seen TNT cannons before and that is DOPE. If only minecraft had a Scrumbleship gamemode where teams of people could drive ships around and fire cannons until one ship sinks. There could be AWESOME battles .
As for me: I am a relatively new shipbuilder with only two ships in my fleet, but they are very large and hyper-accurate. I believe if something is worth building, it is worth building big. I mainly prefer motor ships of all kinds, but I may try a sailing ship one day.
My flagship: RMS Queen Mary 2 with complete interior, 602 blocks by 68 blocks.
Second ship: container ship Emma Maersk, 650 blocks by 90 blocks.

^ Wow, I can tell you must have put a huge amount of work into those. I can see just how accurate they look. In fact, at that scale I can barely tell they were built in minecraft at all! Great job. I look forward to seeing what you do next.
Holy f......
That aircraft carrier is just awesome. No, that word just isn't good enough. We need to invent a new word to describe it.
If you stretch to sci-fi ships you should really try the helicarrier from last years Avengers movie.
Truly excellent builds.
EDIT: Is that Boris in your avatar? He should be PM.
Hang on a minute, looking at it... it looks like there are two aircraft carriers! It's a little harder to tell with the different angle of the pictures, but there's definitely differences in the flight decks. And they are both awesome. As are the rest of the ships in skylancer3441's post. I especially love the sails in the first one. Small, but perfectly proportioned.
I'm sure most of us could pull off a paddle steamer. I might build one at some point, but right now I've got several other ships on the build list.
My current project - which I started yesterday - is SS Kaiser Wilhelm der Grosse, the first of the four-funnel ocean liners. Recently completed are the Imperial German Navy's battlecruiser SMS Derfflinger and U-boat SM U-20.
I've also managed to get XtrablocksEE working, so I can go mad creating loads of extra textures. Hooray!
soviet Project 717 transport/minelayer submarine
Weights half as much as famous Typhoon class but it's 17 blocks longer and 3 blocks wider.
total leight - 190 blocks.
117 crew members.
Enough space to carry about 256 man, 10 BTR-70 APCs and 10 PT-76 tanks (IRL) or 130 man, 8 BTR-70 APCs and 10 PT-76 tanks (in minecraft).
Would like to see a whale oil tanker from Dishonored! Some excellent ships you guys create, I always begin making a ship but then it looks like and I end up giving up. You should make a few tutorials on shipbuilding so ty shipbuilders such as me can learn how to make some ships.
Superjoeyman gave me a heads-up about this thread. Lots of interesting builds here... quite a bit of talent.
I've taken a slightly different tack (pun intended), and decided to build a mod for building ships. This has been done before (ex: zeppelin mod) but I'm interested in building fully animated, fully functional boats and ships.
Because I want all the parts to actually work, building boats like normal Minecraft structures isn't really an option (there is no "animated block" type). So, since all the vessels have to be built in code, there wasn't any reason to limit construction to Minecraft's standard 1x1m block size.
This is the Hoy, a small coastal vessel. She's 34ft at the waterline, 9ft beam, and draws about 5ft:
I start all my builds in Sketchup, laying out basic size and position using 1m blocks, then subdividing as small as 1/8th block to make curves and thinner structures. Once everything is lined up and layed out, I translate each block position and size into code. It's a tedious process, but it goes fairly quickly if you're not trying to make corrections on the fly.
The actual coding is done using utility functions that streamline the process (ex: the midship sections are built once, mirrored to the other side, and replicated to length). The hull is constructed of multiple models so that each section can be colored/textured separately (currently in code, soon in config file, eventually in-game).
Special parts (like the headsails) are created in a single function call specifying size/angle/other attributes, thereafter the mod handles all the animation. There are similar functions for other parts like cannon and carronade (specified by bore and caliber, the mod builds them at the correct size, gun port and runout animations are handled automatically).
Cordage is a pain -- it's all coded by hand. I haven't yet developed an easier way to handle it.
In future it may be possible to import vessels from Techne or some other editor but, for now, building a boat is a coding exercise. The mod framework streamlines that process, but you're still dealing with a text/code (not visual) editor.
Once the mod framework is "complete" (ie, "finished enough") I will publish all of my code, and you'll be able to build whatever kind of ship, as big and as bad as you want.
Current plans are that the Hoy will be the largest vessel in the small boats mod. Larger ships will use much of the same mod code, but will be split off into separate mods. I'm expecting issues (lag from cpu and network) as boats get bigger and more numerous.
The Hoy is still very much a work in progress, but the Punt and Whitehall are mostly complete and fully functional. I plan on posting a new release later this week.
