as far as i can tell i have everything working server side because i can join through my local connection but myself and friends cant join through the public ip. i have set up port forwarding but it doesnt seem to be working even though i have done everything i could to my knowledge also, i have allowed all apps etc through the firewall. the only thing i have to go on at the moment is that my server starts on 25565 but when i join it i get a random port number popping up and i have no idea if thats the problem and if so how to fix it. sorry for the short story and thankyou to anyone who can spare the time to help. (Edit) im running java minecraft on windows 10
you beautiful person it worked, but does that mean i have to allow even more stuff through defender firewall? or play with it off? and if i have to play with it off what can i do to keep my pc protected?
(edit) thankyou i believe i have solved the problem i reset my firewall to get the public and private box to pop back up and selected both. strange that little unchecked box from the past was causing all this trouble even though i wrote entire new rules overriding it ;-; windows is a confusing system. again thankyou so much Tails1 you are a absolute legend!
Hello! I definitely believe this is a misconfiguration when you port forward.. would you mind adding me on discord and we can call I’ll walk you through it? PeterP12#4044

Temporarily completely disable the firewall and try again.
