I've been trying to get a server set up for my son and one of his friends to play on.
We have been able to play on the server with computers on the internal LAN just fine.
Originally I had the server set up on my own computer and I took my sons notebook over to the neighbors house and plugged into their router to check that I was able to connect through the internet and not just the LAN.
Friend was still not able to connect, I thought perhaps my notebook computer just isn't really good enough.
So Set up the server on the Dell Desktop which has much more processing speed. Works great on the LAN but friend still not able to connect
Other computers on our LAN connect to server fine.
The Friend and my son are both able to go play on Hypixel so I think that both installs are are able to reach online minecraft servers.
Any ideas on what the Friends parents (or big brother) need to do to allow them to connect (at this point I'm guessing it must be a firewall thing)? Or how else can I check to make sure my server is accessible to the outside?
What questions do I need to answer for people to help?
At this point I probably need to find some one else who can try to log onto our server to see if it is a problem with our stuff or if some firewall/parental control or something like that On their end is the problem. I'm pretty sure we are all running the newest version and both kids are able to log onto the hypixel servers to play together (this is Ok some but my son is still rather young so I have to stay very close to keep an eye on things while they play on a public server.) I would just prefer to have them both play on my private server (I'm still close but at least I won't have to be glued to the screen to read everything in real time.) I also want my son to actually work out things in his own world rather than just playing mini games other people designed.
Ok, so found another friend with "big brother" who was able to connect to the server. Original friend's big brother still not able to connect to server. So I suppose they might have some issue in their firewall or xfinity router blocking us.

I have used https://portchecker.co/check and Checked the port forwarding, it says OPEN Using the default port.
The Dell Desktop is running Windows 10 pro
the xfinity router is port forwarding to it

so you took a laptop to a neighbor's house, connected to their internet, and you were able to connect to the server?
Yes, so I believe I have the whole port forwarding thing sorted out so I think the problem might not be on my end.
Hey, I think I have the same issue here, and I don't think I have the solution either...
but my friend set up the server exactly the same as how I did on a different Minecraft version. His is 1.14.4, and it works just great.
I might be starting to try using 1.14.4 to set up a server and see if that would work
I will update you if that does. You can try it out too!
OK, so I tried it and clearly it's not a matter of the version.
I wish there's an IDE for the code of server running so I can use Debugger on it Now I don't know what the problem is at.
