I have only now realised that for some reason the description didn't save when I posted the thread. To sum it up: I wanted to update my 1.12.1 server to 1.14.2. I read that it was okay to just copy the world in a newer version of the server. So i downloaded the 1.14.2 and copied all the .jason files, the server properties txt file and the existing world. I ofcourse left the jar file, logs and eula. When I started up the server (which took way longer than normal), it was laggy and after a minute or two I got timmed out. When I tried to reconnect, the server chrashed. In the console there was an error about a duplicated entety on an x x chunk. When I tried to reload the unimportant chuncks in MC edit, the world got regenerated as if it was on a different seed. Below are the pictures of the original server and the newly generated world. I teleported to same coordinates and looked in the same direction and there is a clear difference.
i feel like the problem here is that the seed is different when made in server and when made outside of it, BUT your coordinates are different in each pic AND the world from the server probably was made in a different version, and updated do 1.12.1, if that is so it is normal for it to break

what is happening?
what what what
it seems like Sarium, the God of Chaos returned....
The problem is that when i start the updated server it chrashes and I can't do anything about it. It says something about dulpicated chuncks, but when I reload them in MC edit they regenerate as if they were made in a different seed, which is not the case.
The original world was generated in 1.12.1 by the server when I first loaded it. I've been playing it normaly for around 2 years. The coordinates of x and z are the same, I only flew a litter higher (20 blocks), so it was clear that the ocean wasn't there. I was facing the same direction. The only problem i can see is that servers generate worlds differently than singleplayer minecraft? I got the seed by typing /seed in the console UI. Thank you for your reply anyway. I was only wondering if it is possible to somehow get the true seed and generate a new blank world in a server, but in a newer verison. Then i could simply copy my spawn and the main buildings in MC edit.
For soem reason the description didn't save. I summed it up now. My bad!
Sorry I'm a first time poster. The description didn't save. Should be fine now.
