So I am currently making a minecraft server, I have followed all the steps to making it. I can join it as of right now but when I go into server.properties file and add an ip address so my friends can join and I save it, then when I try to launch the server it spams a bunch of junk and then says "Failed to save server.properties" and crashes. It is very frustrating and I would very much appreciate some help. Thanks in advance!
Your not suppost to put an ip in your properties file. If you want other people to join, leave that empty, and for your computer use the ip "localhost" without the quotes as the ip for your server. For other people to join use your external ip adress that you can get from just searching on google, "whats my external ip adress". Also have you portforwarded?
the ip is not the problem necessarily(and also u r supposed to put the ip in the server properties it even says server-ip= and its blank), its i cant change any of the server properties, i have to leave them all on the default settings because if i change any of them and save the document i cant launch the server and it crashes because "Failed to save server.properties"

server-ip
string blank
Set this if you want the server to bind to a particular IP. It is strongly recommended that you leave server-ip blank!
Set to blank, or the IP you want your server to run (listen) on.
Hmmm, Looks like this says to leave it blank too.....
As for the file not being able to be saved, make sure you've not set the folder to "Read only" or something crazy like that. Which, sounds like exactly whats happened. Create a new folder, DON'T mess with the folder permissions and everything should be good.
