I'm trying to make a server to play with a friend, and when I open server.properties to enter the IP address it only displays the following:
#Minecraft server properties
#Sun Oct 11 18:38:02 EDT 2015
All the tutorials I've seen imply that there should be many lines of code with information about various properties of the server, including a place to enter an IP address. Are these tutorials outdated? Should I just copy+paste the code that should be there from a website? When I tried that I was unable to connect to the server, even after entering the correct IP address.

Thanks for any advice.
Why do you need to enter an ip in the proprieties? does your machine have more then one ip?
