Okay, so basically what is happening is the server application, from minecraft.net, freezes my computer. It's a hamachi server so no port forwarding and I've been running a server on my computer for a long time through many updates. I've done all the troubleshooting I can and nothing will work, so here's what I've gathered:
-If I freshly download the server program, it works for a while, in kind of a "grace period"
-After a while though, it reaches end of stream or the "can't keep up" thing so i have to stop it and then my computer freezes
-When I try to open the folder again, it freezes my computer and won't open, and that's only at the folder, i don't even get to open the actual server, and I have to end up restarting
-Whether I freshly downloaded it or not, if I restart my computer it will always freeze when i open the folder, so there's no grace period there
-I can, however, copy the folder and paste it. The copied version works, but still only has a certain grace period before it crashes on me
-I've of course tried deleting the server program and reinstalling it and obviously restarting my computer.
-As I said before I've been running servers for a long time with no issue, so I don't think its a hardware issue
-I also reinstalled hamachi on the off chance that there was something there, but as expected that didn't fix it
So usually I'm pretty good with solving these things and re-installing has never failed me before, so I'm all out of ideas here. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank god i am not the only one with this problem. Please for the love of god fix this mojang! I havent been able to run a server for a long time because of this. The same thing happens to me. I can open the folder that contains the server, but then my computer freezes and i have to force shutdown. Except with me i don't even get a grace period, just opening the downloads folder to retrieve the minecraft server (jar or exe) freezes me. I don't run a hamachi server but when the servers used to work i could host several friends just fine with no glitches through several updates. Now just having the server file anywhere on my pc is like a goddamn time bomb. I cant even run my computer for more than a few minutes before a freeze happens, and it happens anyway even if i don't touch the file, its just a matter of when. I've done 7 hard shutdowns today alone, and its gotta be killing my PC. The only way to resolve the problem is to boot up in safe mode and eradicate the file with extreme prejudice. Please mojang fix what ever could be doing this or find out what is going wrong so i can delete something!
Okay first off, let me apologize for my post above that blatantly accused mojang and the hard working people there for the problems i was experiencing above. They are not to blame for the issue. Instead the problem was my anti virus, or to be precise, my COMBINATION of anti virus.
Now let me first say that, although it is advised not to run more than one anti virus to avoid incompatibilities or system instabilities, I have been running 3 antivirus's WITH NO ISSUE for the last year. They have never slowed my system down or conflicted before so i never thought that they could be the case here.
For those wondering, i was running:
1. Microsoft Security Essentials
2. Vipre Antivirus
3. Comodo Antivirus
Now this problem of crashing has been prevalent for awhile and after much searching, a forum user inspired me to disable one of the antivirus programs. So i uninstalled Microsoft security essentials, downloaded the 1.7 server and hoped for the best. Lo and behold! the server started! (Albeit with a few errors in the console screen but that may have been the server not the antivirus). To be absolutely sure that it wouldn't crash, i also made sure that the antivirus' knew that the server was a trusted file, and not to block the ports.
I hope that this can solve your problem as well with crashing, even if you only have one antivirus it might help to thoroughly check your settings.
Again apologies for the rage post above, i was stressed and sad and didn't mean any harm by it, Sorry!
