So Im trying to run a server, and while everything worked fine and dandy (Port forwarded, got it running, all that snazz) and the server shows up, but upon attempting to login, the server says "authentication servers are down please try again later." I thought this was just a 'be patience, all servers are down' thing, but Im able to connect to other servers just fine. Any suggestions?
I have also been able to get an Unturned server running just fine...
(IF it helps, the PC that is running the server runs on Windows Vista...)
It is. I do believe it is something with the flub ton of firewalls that sit on the PC. I'll look more into it, but thanks!
(Yea, when it starts up it says it fails to load the whitelist and when people join the server it says "Couldn't Verify Username because servers are unavailable.")
...Is there a specific website the server needs to connect to to log people in? Cause if so, that's my problem. I just need to get it to stop blocking that site.
It seems that mojang authentication server cannot authenticate premium accounts i would suggest to disable online mode set it to false
but then cracked users will be able to acess your usernames if your only playing with friends just turn online mode off
This could indeed be a solution if you plan on just running a private server with your friends, but it's not recommended if you're running a public server. You put yourself in a bad position, just a heads up.
Just wanna bump this thread since i am having the exact same issue as Superobbyking and I am using Lubuntu 15.04 The solutions posted are only temp ones but not helping resolve the overall issue
I've used this exact machine for over 3 years for a minecraft server and never changed anything in my router/firewall. Yes my external IP changed but all settings are in place and all specific ports are open and can verify connection with using 3 teamspeak servers on 3 ports on the same server the minecraft server hosted on and FTP works. I tried all types of modpacks as well my own modpack and even vanilla. Nothing works but when I log into someone else server like mc.hypixel.net I log in with no issue. I need the server to be in online mode to even use headcrumbs properly cause when in offline mode all mobs have a default skin and makes the mod pointless of use.

Is this still occurring for you?

Something is blocking your server authentication.

I've gotten that far. I just need to find out what and then how to fix it.
Try disabling all your firewalls for a quick minute and test to see if that's the cause.
