Gee, I wonder if you write that because you get paid by the developer to write up ********. Oh wait, you are.
If the game is non-profit, PUBLIC DOMAIN why would the developer be paying anybody anything... honestly why would he care if you played his game... I mean he isn't getting money. You know what Public Domain means right? I don't have to quote a wiki for you or anything... this quote here is just review...
"In a general context public domain may refer to ideas, information and works that are "publicly available", but in the context of intellectual property law, which includes copyright, patents and trademarks, public domain refers to works, ideas, and information which are intangible to private ownership and/or which are available for use by members of the public." --Wikipedia
So before you spew nonsense for your mouth take a second to think, yeah that's right use your brain.
If you don't understand all this then I digress, may you live in bliss for all your years.
I'm neutral on Manic Digger, but a lot of people were being butthurt over the fact that it let players hack with -hax on.
A. This won't stop anything at all, it's a one-line fix in MD.
The whole community is not going to start using this, so I doubt it will get exe's attention. And if he tried to work around it even when server hosts and Notch were against him, that wouldn't really help his reputation around here...
B. It'll stop legitimate programs that don't catch stream errors (like C#) which will need to be patched
I know, that's why I warned against using it if you plan on letting people use bots.
C. Implementing this for users who have paid for minecraft opens you up to anti-trust lawsuits. Not as if you'll actually be sued, but it is illegal. See the case of AMD vs Intel 2009 Delaware for a reference case.
Isn't it perfectly fine for people that dislike custom clients to block them? I'm not making a "Free Users ONLY!!" server. So is kicking people who use the WoM client illegal as well? If a paid user makes a bot and connects to my server with it, am I not allowed to block it because it would infringe on their right to play? Come to think of it, is banning a premium user illegal too because it is a restriction on their enjoyment of the game?
I'm not Notch and I don't want him to implement this in the official software, nor do I think he will, and being a minecraft developer myself I know someone would not add this to their code and make it non-configurable. But if someone made a custom client for my own game, and it negatively affected the gaming experience (MD does not do this greatly... yet) I would definitely prevent it from connecting to servers somehow.
D. I can't think of any server dev that would be stupid enough to intentionally invalidate the CRC.
It's not normally a good idea, but Minecraft completely ignores the CRC. And as I said, don't use this if you want to allow bots!
It would be nice if everyone would get over Manic Digger.
It's really not a big deal.
Exactly. This was meant for all of the people who were flaming MD in that thread more than anybody, please don't hate me!
This probably won't play well with bots, but you might want to block those too.
