The Minecraft Undervoid Challenge is complete!! And just in time for the Happy Halloween Spooks!
Undervoid Challenge is a resource pack that converts most naturally spawning blocks and mobs to black! This change fundamentally changes the way Minecraft is played! Can you handle the Undervoid!?
Rules:
-Use the Undervoid Language Pack
-Chunk Distance at least 20
-Play at Midnight (cheats must be active for commands)
/gamerule doDaylightCycle False
/time set 18000
-No using F3
-No disabling resource pack!
Challenges!
-Build a House
-Build a Wheat Farm
-Build a mellon Farm
-Build a Pumpkin
-Build a Reed farm
-Build an Iron golem
-Build an NPC village (complete when iron golem shows up)
-Make an Enchanted set Of Iron Armor (helm, chest, legging, boots)
This was my first attempt at a resource pack. I hope I brought something new to the table.
I learned a LOT when putting this together. Maybe in future iterations I can optimize some of the inner workers of the pack. All in all, just have fun with this pack, all rules and challenges are suggestions. So feel free to add or remove them as you see fit. This is something I was originally just making for myself as a test project but as it progressed I thought I'd share it so others can enjoy it also.
Thank you very much for checking out the pack though!
DO YOU HAVE WHAT IT TAKES TO SURVIVE THE UNDERVOID??
Interesting. Although you never put any challenges in the actual challenge? More like a resource pack and that's all. I would put some goals, rules (such as no f3 to figure out the block), etc.

Developer, server management, system admin. You want it, I do it!
My initial idea was the resource pack itself would be the challenge, but shortly after uploading I figured that maybe I should toss in a few. If anybody has any suggestions i'd be happy to add them to the list ♥

I would suggest adding no F3 in the rules, as in F3 it lets you view what the block you are looking at is. Not sure if you did anything with audio but removing water and lava sounds would make it much much harder, getting them confused underground would be pretty interesting.

There is audio in this mod, but I think I'll leave the lava and water sounds. In play tests, there was nothing quite as frightening to suddenly hear lava and not know where it's coming from haha. Although, the idea of giving water and lava it's own unique sound so you're not quite sure what liquid it is might be an interesting change. I'll make note of it. Thanks again NachtMC
It's a neat concept. I'd recommend taking advantage of some of Optifine's custom resource packs features for a better end result. (If the world is blanketed in darkness, it's a bit odd that only certain blocks can be lit up, while many others seem unaffected by light)
With optifine, you could create some custom world lighting that will still envelop everything in pitch blackness, but that can still be lit up by torches or other light sources. You'd be able to black out the sky as well, or make it appear as though the ceiling were made of bedrock.
Custom functions and advancements could also help automate the world setup (running commands as soon as the world loads, notifications for completed challenges, etc.)

Cool thanks for the suggestion! I actually knew almost nothing about optifine. I only just played around with it a tiny bit tonight haha. I really liked what I saw so I'll see what I can do about maybe an optifine version of the pack at a later time. Going into this project I wanted the resource pack to be as accessible to as many people as possible so I opted in to just creating a simple normal resource pack. Moving forward I could see myself making a version of the pack that takes into account some of your suggestions.
As it stands thoug in the current version, the blocks being unaffected by light is part of the design. It almost turns the entire world into a puzzle/ entity of it's own. Conquering it only with your own own creations. I will however see what I can do with an Optifine version though!
A buddy of mine just showed me how functions and advancements work. I do think this could be really helpful. An issue I'd run into is the player wouldn't have the option to have their own maps or randomly generated maps. Though, i suppose they could just copy and paste the functions into whatever map they decide on using. So it isn't off the table. As I learn more about these features I'll see what I can do about adding them to the pack.
This was really helpful! Thank you very much for your response
