The BEST thing to do would be to open up the unedited minecraft terrain png (found either in the bin folder or at the top of the texture pack database) and resize the image to 200% with 'preserve hard edges/nearest neighbor' check. That will keep it from getting blurry.
Don't start with someone else's work! That only tempts copycating (maybe not with you, but I see it all the time with other people). It's best to start fresh.
