I heard a rumour about being able to design armor and mobs aswell as other textures (not the terrain.png) and the game will use these higher res textures without requiring the MC patcher... is this true? id realy like to find out, and a search on the forums didnt reveal anything.. all i kept finding was tut's on how to make HD textures.. which isnt the answer to my question.
So thanks for reading, and if anyone knows please post with what textures can be designed greater then 16x16.. and not require the MC patcher
Again.. im not talking about the terrain.png, i know this needs the MC patcher.
Well, yes, there are a lot of textures that don't require the patcher, in fact, I think the terrain.png is the only one that does require patching.
You can even mix 16x16 with HD
A mixed terrain would still require the patcher id imagine..
If everything else can be done in HD, how high can you make the res? I heard it was only 32x, but can you do 64x for armour?
Edit: I forgot to ask, are you sure items can be HD without the patcher? thats an important part for me, the items and armour is what id like to have HD in my texture pack im currently making (its being made for non patched use)
I think items.png also requires the patcher to get rid of some odd issues with the edges of things being held in your hand.
Dunno what restrictions there are on the other files. I know 16 times the original resolution is the absolute upper limit due to graphics card restrictions but other than that I'm not sure. (32x is as big as you can get with the terrain.png without having an unpatched game crash. I don't know if that same restriction applies to the other files.)

Yeah...it stretches them in funny directions. Most notably, the compass...

oh bummer, i was realy hoping the items would work.. im happy with HD armour (unfortuantly i spent about a week coming up with a prototype x16 armour suit, as ive noticed alot of texture packs dont offer custom armour)
Time to get editing, but no one has actualy confirmed armour.. so it might not have been a total waste
Wayukian pack uses 16x terrain and items, but the particles and armor are 32x. No patcher is required. You should really go check her texture pack out, it's awesome! :smile.gif:
Infact this is where i got my initial source from, I was asking permision for her cactus to be included in my pack... she said yes :smile.gif:... and i read in her thread that she was doing some HD.. but i wanted to know specifics
and i guess the conclusion is that anything can be 32x, except for terrain.png and items.png!

so is there anyway at all to have a HD compass or clock? i beleive the background for a clock can be HD but i dont know about the item itself?
