I was using paint to edit the .png of the bow_standby image. When I replaced the original bow with the custom one, it just comes out as blank white everywhere that I did not edit when I hold it in minecraft. On the other files, the background of a texture is gray/white checkered before I open it with paint. Is this just Paint adding a white color to where the blank (checkered) background should be? If so, how can I add the see through (checkered) background a regular minecraft texture has?
I attached an image of the white square below to make the question more clear. Any help would be appreciated, thanks!
You're using Paint, which does not support transparency. When you open an item in paint, it strips out the alpha channel (transparency) and uses whatever the underlying color is. In your case, solid white.
The only solution to this is to use a good image editor instead. Both GIMP and Paint.net are freeware and both support transparency. I suggest you get one and use it instead of MS Paint. Paint.net is easier for a beginner, but a bit clunky to use. GIMP is more powerful and gives a better workflow but will likely confuse a beginner to image editing. Either way, be prepared to check out some tutorials.
Thank you!!!! I will try this this tonight Thank you my friend Thank you!
No problem.
As a reminder, default edits aren't well received on the forum. The bow looks like an original creation, but the pickaxe is obviously derived from default. If you're thinking of posting your pack here, make sure that you get rid of anything that looks remotely like default from the pack before posting it. You probably already knew that... but just in case.
Regardless, I wish you well and look forward to seeing what you create!
