i was hoping somebody could make a mod that makes it so you can place two different half block on top of each other, i would do it myself but i dont even understand java, if you can thanks
OP is asking for a mod that allows different half blocks to be placed on top of each other.
EX: Steve places a cobblestone half block. But Steve wishes to put a Sandstone half block on top of
the cobblestone half block. BUT ALAS! Steve is slapped by the game for trying to put the sandstone half block on top of the cobblestone half block.
(you currently cannot put a half block on top of another different half block.)
I don't know much about code, but if two of the same types of half blocks can stack, why couldn't two different ones? Wouldn't they both take up the same half space? Why would you need new "stacked block" objects to make it work?
Sven_The_Slayer already went over this (albeit to a lesser degree) a few posts up.
Slabs and double slabs are actually completely different blocks. A double slab isn't just two slabs placed on top of each other. This is because the Minecraft world is rendered in cubes, not half-cubes. While a half slab looks like it's taking up only half of a block, in the technical sense, it's taking up the full block. That's the same reason you can't place full blocks (directly) on top of slabs, and the same reason that a slab placed next to a full block will make the full block pitch black. This is also why you can't destroy half of a double slab. Wood slabs
and double wood slabs, too, are completely different blocks. The same goes for cobble and sandstone slabs. So, to have mixed double blocks, not only would you have to have 12* more block types, but 12 more block textures. That's a lot of texture space that we can't afford to give up.
