I can't stand it, it's so ugly. It looks like everything a few feet from you is all smudged in an inky spill. Even if I turn them off, I still see it. Remove them!

I'm not sure if it's mip mapping that does this, but if you stand on a roadway of stone going all the way out to the end of max draw distance, it starts to turn yellow.
I'd rather have the smudgeness and smoothness than flickering leafs and pixels all over the place, so removing it is a huge no for me.
Also, turning it off works just fine for me. It's a subtle difference that I'm surprised you're even complaining about. The noticeable difference it that pixels are less distorted in the distance when mipmapping is turned on, especially when you move around.
if when you turn it off it is still on, shouldn't you just report a bug and ask for a fix instead of whining and demanding the removal of a greatly approved feature ?
well if you ask me the only problem you can have with it is if your on small render distance OR In creative. not sure how to remove it, but lets be honest : mojang typically doesn't try to destroy minecraft with new features. oh wait that's right, ever since the horses update the "vanilla - the minecraft mod" has seemed to be expanding. looks like they're also adding flowercraft, more biomes, and optifine! come on guys, what ever happened to the good old minecraft. the truth is once it gets too far un-updating is useless cause once the servers update, so does your hope of your friends wanting to play with you. MOJANG! HAVE YOU NO SENSE OF WHATS PUSHING IT TOO FAR?!?!?!

This too, there are 4 levels of mipmapping that change how close it will take effect, 0 being off, 4 being the closest.
