Now I know that 1.2 just came out and I think it's great but there are still a couple of thing IMO that need some improvements. If anyone else has any ideas feel free to post after all it is a forum
Please note I'm not trying to complain.
One thing that I think that they should focus on in the next part of development is The End/Strongholds. I know some people will disagree but...
(This is not my original idea but I don't remember who it was who said it :/) Ender eyes should lead you the an entrance to a stronghold like the old "Ruin" snapshot. That way you would actually have to go through the stronghold and maybe fight a new mob/boss or maybe find some sort of "key" to unlock the end portal after you've placed all the ender eyes. I'm just throwing some ideas out there. I just think stronghold should be more like a dungeon where you have to go through it before the reward
Second The End shouldn't only be a boss battle. I think that it still should have a new world type of feel like The Nether where there's new really cool terrain generation and something on the ground other than end stone or maybe a new tree or something to liven up The End. The end also IMO shouldn't be a floating island in the middle of no where. After you explore around a little bit and get something started THEN you should be able to fight the dragon and return the the normal world. If you decide to return to The End after you beat the dragon then I think you should be able to make some sort of portal back to the normal world.
The last thing I think should be improved (this is very minor) but the NPC and Iron Golem Texture. I personally think that these quote on quote "Caveman Squidward" NPCs/Iron Golems should actually look like people or pigman or SOMETHING else.
Please post any other idea's you have for the future update

If Facebook, Google Plus, Tumblr, and Twitter were all destroyed, 90% of teens would go insane. If you're one of the 10% that would be laughing at them, copy this into your signature and hope it happens.
Personally, I hope for more compatibility and stability before adding more content. The long-awaited mod API would be nice, if only to make modding easier and not completely break between versions. After taking a long break since 1.8.1, the game still feels like beta did to me. Once the structure is intact and the core engine is stable, then I'd say more content. I do love the game, just anxious.
Yeah I want the mod API to. Personally I am awful at installing mods and that would help immensely

Jeb most certainly has his hands full with 1.2. So many interesting bugs. It reminds me of Beta, but in a good way.
Anyways It's most certainly going to be the API update, but that doesn't mean that we wont receive weekly AI tweaks and new features along the way. The end goal will just be the API. I just hope Jeb will decide to fix the major bugs in 1.2. If he does oit the Notch way and makes people wait until 1.3 to get a stable game, then people are going to RAGE.
I made a post about this thing in discussion and with a poll, alot said villages, terrain, and mobsI first posted it in this section....(it may be moved)
1. Jon is still working on AI, and his #1 priority since day one was the villagers, so we'll see some of that
2. The Bukkit team has been hired to develop the modding API, so I almost guarantee that's coming next release
3, I bet Jeb will be pulling in some new ideas, like he did with Jungles, and I almost guarantee it'll start with deserts. Since there's a few new, unused block textures that look like Sandstone with Hieroglyphics on them.
All in all, I'm looking forward to 1.3 more than I was 1.2
I want more sophistication in combat. The new monster AIs have kept me busy for an afternoon, but that's about it. I'm really not a fan of PVP, but I don't think Minecraft would be hurt by making it more sophisticated. Just a little delay between attack and damage would go a long way.
And the modding API. Again, I'm not big into mods either, but Minecraft needs it.
I think that the first two snapshots have to be bug-fixes and adding the mod API. Then, they have to focus on lightning, especially in the problem with the areas that are dark. Then they have to change the terrain generation so Nether return to normal, and we have more awesome mountains. Also, the End has to be improved, I think that you have to summon the Enderdragon by some sort of shirine at the overworld and it goes to a stronghold and enters the End, and endermen start summoning more and more, trying to turn the world into an End copy -they may have and Endstone block when spawn-
Optimization, Mod Api and BUG FIXES, LOTSA BUG FIXES.
Especially Smp and how you hold chests now after 1.8.

I think an important thing to note is that the +0.1 releases are meant to be stable releases that pave the path for a month of fun.
No one can call this a stable release, and a month of this, I can't even tell you what's going to happen. He did fix the forests, but he has a lot more work to do.
From what I can see, all they fixed with 1.2 was netherwart and upgraded golem AI..
All the new stuff is great, but I'd love to see some of the basic stuff improved/added to over time.. For example:
- reinforced boats so they're not breaking all the time.
- nether brick half slabs and gates
- storage block for redstone like iron, lapis etc.
- Do more with some of the basic stuff... Like make a backback out of leather that increases how much inventory you can carry... Drop how much hunger bread restores and have the ability to make sandwiches. How about boiled eggs (I've got so many damn eggs), or pumpkin pie.
etc...
There's just so many things in this game that have little to no use that I think those should be expanded so there's more reason to be "farming" them.
I'd love to see catacombs, i really hope there's mummies, even if theyre just reskinned zombies.
I'd like to see at least one specific mob for each biome. i'd like to see some biome-specific monsters, instead of just dungeon-specific monsters (however i think their plan is to keep it dungeon-specific)
I dunno, maybe a new biome. Volcano? Extremely sparse but sizeable floating islands?
New ores to influence enchanting, potions, dye, aesthetics, more compact redstone circuits, paint, Holding XP. Ores in the nether too.The way these could be implemented would be to replace some coal and redstone ore blocks, add to generated chests, put in nether, or have as a rare mob drop.I'd be pretty bummed if they kept to one main topic though...
I would like to see modding api. I'm already an expert coder (for someone in the first half of high school), and the lack of official modding api is the only thing keeping me from making mods that I have been planning for a very long time.
Please note I'm not trying to complain.

mod api
Optimization would be very important since minecraft gets pretty slow after an update comes by.
Modding API would also be great for the modders.

How to not die in a cave
Maybe some sort of desert stronghold?
