So I wanted to make an Enderchest, so I needed an Enderpearl.(New snapshot)
Holy ****.
Once I started attacking one, his range seemed to be about the same as mine, making attacking his feet hard to do. Endermen are supposed to have a smaller range than you.
I was also on hard, so they hit you like a truck. Even with a full set of Iron armor. You'll go down in 2 hits without armor on to begin with. But this is pretty normal, it's been like this since 1.0.
I hope this is a bug. Endermen already have many ways to cheat at combat
I also tested this with other mobs. Endermen seem to be the only ones with this insane melee range. I may just be going insane.
When I was playing the snapshot it seemed as though enderman are less spastic and don't like to teleport across the map. When you hit them now, they tend to teleport closer on another side of you or don't even teleport at all instead of teleport like 20 feet away and running up again. Damage-wise, they usually only got one hit on me and I killed them. I would have iron top/pants and they would do a couple hearts. I don't remember any of this 100% but I feel they probably do the same damage and have the same range as always.
Just tried this, there does seem to be something different with them.
They usually get a hit off whenever you do, and they're smarter with their teleporting.
I was naked with an iron sword, and I killed it with two hearts left. Still pretty easy.
Of course, I lured in a Creeper and got an explosion off on the poor guy.

Ha, yeah, weaken him first, or just light a TNT near it's feet or even push it into a cactii.
I'm actually having trouble with them now.
The problem is their reach, or your reach, or something. Maybe it's just the server logic.
Because it's pretty well impossible to hit them without them hitting you. I'm gonna try the legs trick.
EDIT: The legs trick still works.
EDIT EDIT: Kind of. I'm still getting killed half the time.
I guess this is actually an enemy you NEED to be clever with now. Like Blazes.
The best thing is to get to a place where you can hit them but they can't hit you/ won't be inclined to teleport to you. Fighting them in a doorway is a bit easier than out in the open, at least with my Enderman experiences. Also, don't forget the water bucket!

WOAH, WAIT. Our eyes take pictures? Please tell me I can recover these pictures from another person.
You have to stick a thumb drive up their nose, drag and drop the pictures onto it, and then load them through your ear.
I haven't tested this, but I don't mind endermen being more difficult. They should be almost like a miniboss fight. Instead you just spam their shins until they die, which is a bit lame.

Guess it's just the effects of the merge.
