Based on the recent update I have summoned three turtles alltogether to the beach and gave them seagrass to eat. They did lay some turtle eggs and now I have waited a couple of days for them to hatch. And how long do I have to wait? 1 day? 10 days? 10000 days?
But nothing happened, and when I checked on them again they ALL have vanished!!!
So how can I breed turtles and get the scopes? Do they vanish after some time? What makes them vanish?
No I did not jump on them. The eggs and the three turtles were together in a fenced area at the beach. What am I doing wrong?
This is the second tim ALL eggs have vanished... Maybe they vanish when the server crashes (because it has to convert the tiles from1.12 to 1.13 ?)
Zombies will deliberately seek out turtle eggs and stomp on them until they break. I don't know what size the sea turtles classify as, but anything bigger than a chicken will also cause the eggs to break if they happen to stand on them for long enough as they wander around.
Turtle eggs require darkness, enough so that hostile mobs can spawn, in order to have them hatch at the fastest rate possible. You can increase the hatching time by a really long time by increasing the light levels, but at some point it will become too bright and the hatching will completely pause (completely guessing here, but light level 9 might be the point where it becomes too bright). On average, it should take 40 minutes RL for the eggs to hatch, or roughly 2 minecraft days (probably more like 4 if you have them on the surface exposed to sunlight).
My eggs disappear perhaps if I am more than 50 blocks away after they hatch when I have been within the required distance when they did hatch. Frustrating.
I had been standing watch for nearly two days. Went about 60 blocks away to get something and when I came back all 8 eggs were gone. The area is fenced two high. No lights.
Eggs hatched successfully here when I was standing watch when they opened. Now I have 40 eggs about to hatch so I think I’ll just waste my time standing in the pen on Turtle Beach.
This DOES NOT FIX my problem however. I should not have to physically attend their hatching.
oh yes...they were MOVED here with a silk touch tool.
While editing a group of 4 now 8 have hatched. I am after the scutes si will feed them.
More info: I am playing in Peaceful, so they are not being stomped by zombies.
Skeletons and drowned with tridents can be a real issue with the eggs.
I've only tried to do turtle breeding once and I got one egg to hatch (lost the scute though b/c was not in the area but within render distance). The others were not growing due to light or were stomped. Baby turtle grew up fast enough thankfully as it was an island and Drowned were abundant.

Was your fenced in area well lit?
Apparently undead mobs attack turtles, turtle eggs and baby turtles.
Just testing.
