In the newest snapshot there is a superflat preset where you spawn on a small stone platform, when I saw this my first thought was to make a skyblock map. I also discovered that mobs don't spawn in this biome that the preset uses, the void. Is there anyway for me to change this so mobs will spawn?
The void biome is mostly used by people who do redstone or cmd_block stuff. It can also be used for mapmaking as well. The biome is "The Void" and mobs do not spawn ever, no matter what, unless by means of eggs/summon/spawners. This biome also doesn't have any rain, yes the sky darkens but no rain is present. By it's id (127) it's pretty close to a "Blank" biome, and this means that nothing is going on in here. The grass is the same green, but it's mainly used for map making and not survival maps. However, spawners still function, since they ignore biome.
TL;DR Version :
It's for a blank, mob and rain free building experience that one must use different methods to spawn mobs.

If you change the biome to something else in say MCEdit or World Painter the mobs will spawn. I know since I have a large sky islands project where I use world painter to change the biome. The mobs do in fact spawn in it.
I have the solution. Instead of making a void world, just go to custom superflat and delete all layers but bedrock. Then customize the command and replace where it says bedrock and make it say air. Then you can turn off structure generation if you want. Mobs will spawn. I've yet to get animals to spawn, but monsters will. If you try this and also cannot get animals to spawn then do a void world and customize the command to make the biome plains or any other biome.

This command does not fix it, thank you for your attempt at helping me.

Bug??? Maybe it is, report it to Mojang
Try /gamerule doMobSpawing true ; I don't know if this will necessarily work though.
Oh, sorry. I didn't read any replies.

Don't go to my channel, pls.
I believe you can change the biome id of the preset.
The biome is meant for map makers. It:
Is in the void.
The grass is the same color all around,
No mobs spawn.
It's empty. YOU need to fill it up.
Mobs won't spawn naturally, but Spawn Eggs, Mob Spawners, and the /summon command will still work.
Try those.
