If I was forced to choose, I'd personally pick nuclear. Despite common belief a ton of people could easily survive from a nuclear war. And the area and areas around me aren't likely to be hit anyway.

HA! I have all of my nuclear weapons pointed at Indiana.
I don't know why this idea continues to persist. There would be billions of people that would likely survive even the worst of a nuclear war.
No there would not.
Perhaps 1950's nuclear tech, but modern tech? We'd wipe out every nuclear-capable country, or rather any country with a decent military, off the map, then the ensuing nuclear winter would utterly wipe out everything else. You seem to consider more of the immediate effects, ignoring the longer-lasting effects.

Nuclear: Nope. That would be very destructive and suck a lot.
Pandemic: Nope. Maybe one of the worst ways to go, especially if everyone else dies first.
Zombies: Nope for obvious reasons.
Alien invasion or robot takeover would be the easiest to survive (of course, depending on the aliens and/or robots.)

Even in the last Ice age with Ice stacked 3 miles deep over the great lakes there was still plenty of livable places on earth. You obviously don't understand nuclear war strategy. The primary targets of any nuclear power are the nuclear weapons of the other country then Communications, command and control, military assets, etc. Continents like South America may not be hit by any nuclear weapons. It would certainly not be the end of the human species.

You don't understand "nuclear winter". Ice sheets have nothing to do with it. Even in the ice age, there was still sun. A nuclear winter has nothing to do with the ice, rather the lack of sun. Plants would die, animals that feed off the plants would die, and humans that feed off of both would die.
