I've been watching a lot of TheSpoonyOne lately and he's got me very interested in playing a game called Dungeons and Dragons. And since I'm virtually broke and nobody in my area even considers this a viable option in their gaming repertoire, I was wanting to see if there were possibly some online programs or downloadable books or something that I could use to get into it. I've heard of some sort of program that lets you make maps and put custom miniatures on it, but I can't remember the name of it.
All I'm mainly after is some place online to download the books, free or not. Since there are no bookstores or gaming stores in an area I can realistically reach right now that's my only option. I'd really appreciate any help, thanks!
(Also, if this is in the wrong section please excuse me.)

It might not be the easiest approach, but you could always try joining up on Roll20 [Link] and seeing if you could find a beginner-friendly game where you could ease into the game. As for resources, a quick Google search should give you pdf files for the D&D 3.5 Edition rules, Character sheets, and other tools to help you out. I have yet to find a place with the 4th Edition material though.
Others might be able to provide you with better links and resources. I'm not the most experienced in playing tabletops and usually play with custom rule sets instead of the standard D&D rules anyway.
That was the thing on the Google search though (apologies for not mentioning it). One of my Skype friends says the online copies are illegal, and I was hesitant to save them on my system. I'll give Roll20 a shot though, it seems promising. Thanks!
